Hey Gang,For those of you complaining of lousy gas mileage, try a couple things:1. Lose the lead foot. I realize the Vibe is hurting in the hp dept, but save it for when you really need it - like getting onto the interstate. 2. Use synthetic oil, even if it's WalMart's brand. It makes a difference. We just had a hot summer here (FL) and I consistently got 29 mpg locally and 34-36 hwy. Oil and filter change every 7500 miles.3. I'm not convinced the brand of gas makes much difference, unless it's Sunoco (I'd sooner pee in my tank), but I generally use Citgo or BP, (I am price-driven).4. Wash your car - it'll go faster.

One more thing: Keep the tires at 32 psi or better although more than 32 can make for a rough ride. Low tire pressure will really suck up mileage.

Perhaps you have a lead foot? I too am in FL and average 30 in the city and 36-40 highway. Your numbers are about average though.

I average 38 mpg (Canadian gallon). Mostly highway and some dirt and back roads. I keep the Nittos at 38psi., synthetic oil.

29 vs 30 locally is inconsequential. How you get 40 hwy piques my curiosity. The engine revs too high at 75mph. (If you go much slower than that, you're a roadkill here). I wish they'd put a 5 speed auto in the car. We'd all be getting 40+. I imagine if I replaced the $%&!* OEM Goodyear tires I'd get better mileage too. I know the handling would improve.
