Sticky Throttle

Hello - Love this site! I have found that when I release the accelerator abruptly, the pedal then sticks when I go to press on it again. If I release gently on the accelerator, it does not stick when I press on it again. Anyone else experience this? And if so, any solutions? The problem is definitely not with the pedal or cable. I have tried spraying WD-40 on the spring of the throttle, but that made no difference.Thanks! JM '05 GT

welcome to the board, i've not experienced this. i see you have a gt, mines a base 05 which doesnt have a cable its drive by wire aka electronicly controlled

Hmm, an 05. Is that Drive by wire or not? If you have a regular throttle body then my guess is that it is gummed up. That'll cause the throttle to stick. take your intake off the throttle body and look at the butterfly valve........see if it's gummed up.

would it be possible for a air pressure differintal to be the cause of the stickyness??

The fact that the speed at which you release it makes me think (not know) that the cable may be getting caught up somewhere - like northvibe said. I would clean the throttle body first anyway since its easy, somewhat quick and would eliminate the possibility of a sticky gummy throttle.

Thanks for all your replies! The GT has a accelerator cable, and the cable is not the issue because when I move the throttle body by hand (with the engine on or off) the throttle body itself gets stuck after I release it abruptly. Any other ideas besides some kind of blockage inside the TB? Thanks, JM

even moving it by hand since it is a cable...could be the cable, you are pulling on the cable when you move the black rotor. Although...it could be the butter fly that is sticking...you would have to take the TB off to see exactly which one it is.....

Northvibe is quite correct. I would go ahead and just remove the TB assembly, pull the cable, if it sticks, its the cable, if not give the throttle body a real nice cleaning. Do you use an oiled air filter maybe? Maybe, not most likely, the oil could come off of that and get in the throttle body.
