Threw a birthday party for my 12 y/o last night at the roller rink. Her and all her friends go there EVERY Friday night for the past 3 years. Everyone was having a great time, even me and I haven't skated for a looong time! Then we noticed a crowd quickly forming along the wall out on the skate floor. My wife went out to see what's up and started to see blood all over. She found my daughters best friend laying on the floor. My wife brought the girl over to me while holding her arm. I took one look at her arm. Yeah that's broken! Both bones, radius & ulna, and the top bone had come out the bottom of her arm (hence were all the blood came from).I used my wrist guards as a splint and made a sling out of her vest and my wife sent her to the ER. Her mom met them at the ER. The orthopedic doc hadn't seen her until a few hours later so we're not sure of her outcome. From my experience working in an ER for 9 years, I'm sure she'll have to have surgery, especially since the bone was protruding. Then she'll be in a splint for a couple weeks, then a cast for 3 months. We all felt bad that something like that had to happen. Then about half an hour later, another girl fell and hurt her wrist pretty bad. No apparent fracture. We did get a discount for the party. If your looking for a inexpensive b-day party, only $90 includes skate rental, soda and ice cream. ER visit NOT included.
