Disable key chime?

I dislike all the chimes in my 2006 Vibe and long ago came here and learned how to get rid of the seat belt reminder chime. I would like to know how to disable the annoying chime when the key is in the ignition and the door is open. I did manage to get rid of the chime by defeating the dome light switch but it also disables the dome light. Is there a way to simply disable the chime and have everything else work ?

here's the reminder circuit PDF from a 03, the connector pinout of the instrument cluster may be different on an 06. Might be easier to glob a bunch of something on the back of the instrument cluster to mute the chime, or maybe you can cut the wire between the cluster and the "unlock switch".

I personally feel that the seatbelt chime is there for a reason. I don't understand the point of going through the effort to disable it when it is there for your saftey. Seatbelts save lives.

or just leave the key out of the ignition when the door is open

I've heard of people cutting the leads on the buzzer itself, not something I'd ever recommend in a zillion years as you've whacked all the beeping if you do that. It is soldered onto the cluster's circuit board.Or like raging said and turn the key on. You're going to have more of a drain on the battery though, so be careful if you do that.A small amount of foam camper tape over top of the buzzer will probably help quiet it down too.

for me, the chime has saved my battery several times, I can deal with it, wouldn't disable it.If you do disable it, do it in a reversible manner, that way, a month after you trade or sell the car, we won't have a noob on here unable to figure out why the light and door chime in their used 06 Vibe doesn't work

You have to go one position past ACC to ON (without hitting ignition) to have the accessories work without the continuous chiming.
