Quote »Woman hurt in fall from platform during fight at Fremont NUMMI plantBy Ben Aguirre Jr.MediaNewsArticle Launched: 09/25/2007 03:24:28 PM PDTA 59-year-old woman suffered injuries to her face and legs late Monday when she was pushed off a production platform at New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. by a male co-worker with whom she'd been feuding, police said. The woman suffered a chipped tooth, bumps, cuts and bruises to her face, and complained of pain in both legs after the 9 p.m. incident, which led to a 43-year-old man being arrested, Detective Bill Veteran said.San Leandro resident Michael Billings was booked into Santa Rita county jail in Dublin on suspicion of assault, and he likely will be arraigned on Wednesday. Both the injured woman, whose name has not been released by police, and the man gave differing accounts of the incident, Veteran said. The woman said the man flipped her off for no reason earlier in their shift and then shoved her off a platform later that night, causing her to fall and hit her head on a steel structure below, the detective said. However, Billings told police that the woman had laughed at him and then used derogatory language and spat on him before shoving him on the platform, Veteran said. Billings then pushed the woman in self-defense, which caused her to fall off the platform, he told police.NUMMI security detained Billings before police arrived, and officers then took him to the county jail. The woman was treated at the scene by Fremont firefighters and then taken to a local hospital. Her condition was unknown this afternoon.Link to original source -->

Way to go NUMMI, now that's teamwork! Toyota Production System manual page 478 section 3 says to achieve harmonious workforce, one must kick another in the teeth. Or maybe at NUMMI, instead of Hawaiian shirt days they have "assault your coworker" days. Pretty sure my Vibe was built on one of those days. ANywho... I flip people off all the time for no reason at work, I never get beaten up. None of us do, we all flip the bird - from the director level on down, it's how we say hi around the ol' workstead.

No one flips off the bird for "no apparent reason."When I was a young-un, I made the mistake of using that gesture in public. The only time I use it now is at my computer.

Never thought about it until now, but it might be related to the UAW strike. Relevant Link -->

http://www.insidebayarea.com/ci_6985298I don't know why, but whenever labor issues arise, it seems like more often than not, people on both sides resort to juvenile behavior.

They were arguing about whether the Vibe is a Toyota or GM platform. To this day, dealerships don't know either. It puts much pressure on those behind the scenes.
