New winter tires on the way!

I know its a little early to be thinking about winter tires, but Tire Rack had such a good deal on the tires I wanted (Dunlop Winter Sport M3) in the size I wanted (215/55/16) that I couldn't pass it up. The tires will cost me right at $400 shipped to the installer then another $60 to get them mounted. PLUS Dunlop had a $50 mail in rebate to go along with that so that makes the total coat for the tires and mounting and balancing right at $410. $105 a tires doesn't sound too bad to me! Will let you guys and gals know how they do when we finally get some snow here in Central IN!Here's what I got:

Just wondering why 215/55/16? Stock is 205 and narrower is better for snow tires.

I went with the 215/55/16 because Dunlop doesn't make the tire I want (Winter Sport M3) in the stock size. It goes from 195/55/16 to 205/45/16 to 215/55/16. Plus Tire Rack was having a sale on the tire and size I wanted. There have been MANY positive reviews on this tire on Tire Rack (average rating of 8.51 out of 10). And that's good enough for me. Spent last winter on "no-seasons" 225/50/16 and didn't do very well. From what I have heard here, 2 sets of tires is the way to go so I am going that way.

They do have the Dunlop SP Wintersport 3D in 205/55/16 and they are better tires. #1 and M3 is #2. Only $5.00 more and the correct size, it works for me. I'm buying the 3D, V speed rated for $96.00 They did make the M3 in 205 until recently. I think they are phasing them out in favour of the newer 3D.

But if you notice in the surveys, the 3D is second to the M3 in light and heavy snow traction. Plus we are talking about 10 mm in width and less than a half inch in diameter. I don't think that is going to make that much difference. I'm happy with what I purchased and hope you are too.

WINTER TIRES ARE HERE!!! And I really like the looks of them! Now all I have to do is wait for some snow. Probably be late November, early December before that happens. Will let you know how they work. I'm anticapting a good result from the looks of the tread pattern. Here's to keeping my fingers crossed!!!
