I got a bit of a surprise today. I got the pleasure of finding my car with a dead battery this morning. Well actually, my wife found it while trying to leave for school. Apparently, the dome light switch (the one combined with the dash board dimmer) was left in the on position and thus the dome lights drained the battery. Now, with the car exuding so much control over every other light on the car, you'd think that the car would have like a 20 min reserve power thing for the dome light, then kill it to save the battery. Guess not. Or does it and mine is not functioning properly? This settles it. I'm killing all automatic light control funtions. Period.Also, anyone had to replace a windshield lately? How much does that cost?

my auto lights turn off after a couple min or something no issue. But if you flip the switch to turn them on then they should stay on until the battery dies or the switch is flipped to auto or off.windshields are usually like 300-500 i think. My auto insurance covers glass though so I dont pay out of pocket, but had to get a windshielded replaced once...

They came out and replaced it in our driveway. It's not quite the same as the OEM glass - the little black dots in the area above the rearview mirror are smaller and closer together. We'll see how it holds up over time.AFAIK, there's no timer on the dome lights (nor would I want one since there have been some times when I've wanted it on for extended periods). Hiya fellow Illinoisian,I've left the rear view mirror lights (both of them) on over night with no problems starting it the next afternoon. Of course, I do have an Optima Red-Top but I can't believe these bulbs would drain that much unless there was something else on. If not, maybe change your battery to something better just in case it happens again?I had my windshield replaced through my insurance for $100 back in August. I had several spidered cracks though they were repaired. One dead center but just under the wiper started to spread during the heat of Late July / Early August. The bill showed something about the glass costing $105 so I'm not sure it that was the remaining charge to Geico or what. That would mean the whole thing cost $205. It was tinted glass with the dots as well. The repair was done by Safelite Autoglass Dave

Not sure about the windshield since I have no deductible on my insurance-they took care of everything when that freaky mystery thing hit my windshield.

When you have a windshield replaced, do yourself a favor and call around to the different glass places and TALK to them.... Seriously, speek to someone who knows glass and get a feel for what it is they are doing.... I was calling around about it and finally spoke to a guy that was VERY willing to talk to me and spoke of different places using different glass... He said OEM glass is the way to go, it may cost more, but it WILL fit properly and is made to OEM standards...I would also watch the process, they use a trim knife to get under the glass and cut all the adhesive, well, that knife and do SERIOUS damage to the frame around the windshield, it can make SERIOUS gouges that, over time, will completley rust out the frame... A good time to be VERY (removed)... I know this because both my Astro and my GF Jimmy have had windshield replaced, before we owned them of course, and both are RUSTING OUT.... Just beware...
