That was one of the worst days of my life and i didn't even know anybody that was affected by it... I do remember i was working nights, so i slept through most of it, then my girlfriend at the time, woke me you saying "You gotta see this" I wish i hadden't, i thought it was a bad dream, i thought it couldn't be true, i thought the world was lyeing to me.... The memories are still very vivid for me and honestly, it's bringing tear to my eyes writing this.... I remember the vigles(sp?) we had in downtown Burlington and all the colledge frat/souroitie houses with big signs saying "come on in, have a talk, we are with you" It was all very sureal.... I will never forget......

Our Congress seems to have forgotten.

I'll never forget.

This will always be a very surreal memory for me. My wife and I were preparing to fly back home after visiting family in her little hometown in central Wisconsin. On our way to the airport, we and our hosts had breakfast at a local diner - owned and run by a good family friend. It was all very ideallic: locals coming and going, many of them stopping to say their well-wishes to us; the weather was crisp and the sky clear.Our friend who ran the restaurant stepped out of his tiny office in the back, walked to our table and said, "A plane hit the World Trade Center." We all thought it must've been some small plane or something. I went back with him to his office and stood in front of his tiny TV sitting above his desk. I knew immediately from the smoke that it couldn't have been a small plane...but what exactly still didn't seem clear.I went back out to our table and told everyone what was on TV and that it looked pretty bad. Then, our friend returned again from his office and said, "I don't think you guys will be flying anywhere today." He then told us another plane had hit the other tower. He knew, before the FAA had announced it, that we were about to go into a lockdown.After rushing back to his office and standing mesmorized in front of that tiny 9" TV, I realized he was right. This time, of course, the video showed the second aircraft.So, we went back to our host's home, all in a state of shock, unable to fathom the idea that persons could turn an aircraft into a guided missle and destroy thousands of lives. When news of the Pentagon crash and United 93 were broadcast, we all honestly believed we were about to go to war...but with whom, we couldn't know.Later that day, after forcing myself to go outside and get away from the bombardment of news, I realized there were no aircraft in the sky. Not a contrail, not a prop-buzz, no dopplered jet sounds. Just a crystal blue sky. And it remained that way for three more days until we finally were able to return home. That, for me, was one of the most eerie aspects of 9/11 and my sense of that negative space will stay with me forever.

if im not mistaken my aunt was working for a campany that was in one of the buildings that was hit or one near by that was affected. a co-worker called in sick and they had asked her to go but it was a long drive for her and they called someone else. so i almost was affected family wise.i was in nags head NC when it happened. my friend had a timeshare down there and i was sleeping on a fold out bed. next thing i know is that everyone is sitting on my bedwatching tv. thats when they told me.i also have a friend currently on his third toud in iraq he comes home oct 5th god willing! god bless the troops!
