Hi all, I'm about to be a new 07 Pontiac Vibe owner! Delivery by wed of next week! I'm so excited, I have been waiting for this day since 03. I think I got a pretty good deal on it too Anyway, I have a question for all you out there... What are your feelings on the Extended Warranty? Would you recommend getting it? Think it's a waste of money? What's likely to go wrong in the first 5 years/100,000 that you know of? How much would you pay for one if you would?Any input would be apprciated. Thanks!!!

Welcome! First thing first, pics must be posted within 1 hour of vehicle delivery . j/k. As far as the warranty, you've already got 5yr/ 100,000mile powertrain protection. I wouldn't buy it. You may have a couple minor things go wrong over the next few years, but I doubt the repair costs would come anywhere close to the warranty cost. These cars are pretty reliable.

Depends if you do the routine maintenance properly. Lots of members here on genvibe cut the maintenance times in half. Then they are done before any issues and keep the car in much better shape. After 100k I would think rubber and seals start to wear out, shocks, struts, transmission can get goofy if the oil wasnt changed at proper times. Battery for sure, they use a weak one in the vibe. it all depends really. How long do you plan on keeping the car? Powertrain warranty will only cover engine/transmission/drive line issues. It will not cover other issues like electronic concerns with air bags, abs, power windows, locks, cruise control... etc. If you plan on keeping the car and really would like the security of knowing if something breaks, your covered for the repair beyond factory warranty... I say buy the extended.Don't buy it if you plan on modding the snot out of your Vibe lol

Thanks for the replies. I think you were all saying what I was thinking. They were asking 2000 for it, and I do plan on driving the car until the next decade, with no major mods. Thanks for your input!

[Powertrain already had a 7/70.] It paid for a $150 cruise control repair. The $140 to replace a failed motor mount happened not to be a covered part. Yet, the peace of mind in a time when I was relatively poor was probably worth it at that price. These $2,000 extended warranties appeal to people who finance them along with the car. Odds are you will fare better by putting the $2,000 you would have spent in the bank. But in the unlikely event the a/c quits at 36,001 miles you will wish you had the coverage.

Welcome. I think that if you are getting a standard you may want the extended warranty. Seems like the clutches on some of the vibes go out sooner than expected.

I believe a "clutch" is also considerd a wear part like brake linings/pads and therefore not covered.

nope the clutch isn't covered, i just found that out on friday. so my "ultra guard" extended warranty that's supposed to cover things that the regular warranty doesn't has been a waste of money so far. the dealer wanted almost $1,500 to replace the clutch on my GT. i told em no thanks. i can't see spendin that much when i can get a better clutch and a lightweight flywheel for about $500 less than that.btw i've only got 31k on the vibe

Vibes come with a weak battery and are notorious for it...they go bad sooner than expected..or at least act weak. I know after my battery was replaced it started up much better specially in the winter. I dont think i said it was covered under warranty unless it explodes or something but its a maintenance cost down the road usually after your full coverage warranty expires.....
