Has any one installed a TRD Cai in their Vibe (base)? Will it fit behind the fog light ,or is the Injen a better fit?

Mine is on backorder, but I'll let you know how the TRD CAI fits as soon as it arrives and I get it installed!

Hey - I installed my TRD intake yesterday on my Vibe. IT is NOT a direct fit, but I made it work. The biggest problem is the bottom of the headlight, and the back of the foglight. Basically, I had to move the tube so that the filter is resting (pushing on) the back of the foglight. I was not too happy about it, but after spending $250 on it I was determined to make it work. I don't know what the other brands sound like, but this TRD is GREAT. No increased sound at idle and part throttle, but it turns into a MADMAN above 3k RPM at full throttle. VERY nice sound! But, I'll reiterate, it IS NOT a direct fit for the Vibe. Pete

I have mine sitting in the living room - I would like to install it this weekend, but I have to finish a paper that's coming due for a class I'm taking first. I wonder if the intake was shortened by an inch or two if it would fit better? How would one (I) go about cutting it? Hack saw? Buy/borrow/rent a BIG tubing cutter? Anything more advanced like something from a machine shop is not an option, since I don't have access.

Big tubing cutters, aka exhaust pipe cutters, are available quite cheap and could likely also be rented. Some muffler shops are pretty good about small jobs like a single cut; will do them free as a bit of goodwil on future business. Alternatively a good eye, a steady hand and a wrap of tape to follow make hacksawing fairly straightforward.

Hey! I have a exhaust pipe cutter - a good one! This means I may get to use it TWICE since I bought it....

Here's a pic of the filter rubbing on the back of the foglight. I wonder how long this'll be OK? I dunno. Right now I don't feel like "modifying" a $240 intake, so I'll leave it this way for a bit. Doesn't seem to be bouncing around too much down there, and it hasn't hurt the intake or the foglight YET...Pete

I have an Injen intake on order. From the installs that I have seen, the filter sits above the foglight. But, I have also heard that you need to push the filter up the tube a couple of inches. The way you have it installed there looks a little dangerous for the filter. Take a look at this install by Lancer. Here is the entire thread: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1281

I installed my TRD CAI a few days ago (finally!). I did not have any problems fitting the filter. Yes, it is right against the BACK of the fog light, but it is touching, not pushing. I was able to install the filter on the pipe from below (without the help of wife). The bottom of the filter is about 1 inch above the plastic splash guard. Service will be relatively easy - all I have to do is loosen the hose clamp, remove a couple splash guard bolts and voila! Things turned out much better than expected, considering all the troubles people have experienced.

Did you use both rubber base mounts? I could only get the forward most one to line up, otherwise the position of the filter was all wrong (too far forward, interfering with fog light).Pete

I used all the mounts as provided. I did do a few things out of sequence - I connected all the mounts finger tight, then put on the filter. Last I connected the CAI to the throttle body. They have really long adjusting slots in the mounting tabs on the intake tube. Their manufacturing process must not be very precise if they feel they need so much play. I was at the limits.
