Just because my life didn't sux enough...

The Vette was totaled this morning. My dad was getting on the express way this morning, hydroplaned, and spun out. No other cars were involved, and my dad's okay. No pics as of yet, I haven't even seen it yet (I don't know if I even want to) Just as a little reminder, please take it safe out there, better to arrive late then not at all.

It's times like these that make us realize that the things we covet most are just that - things. We get caught up in what we want, and on occasion we are fortunate enough to save what we really need - our loved ones.Glad to hear that your dad is ok. My friend just lost one of his close friends because she drifted into head on traffic while driving. She wasn't as lucky as your dad, so take solace and give him a big hug when you see him.

Well, I finally got to talk to my dad, he is physically fine, he just misses his car, but on the happy side of life, the Vette might not have to be totaled I'm not a car genius, but...... that looks pretty bad to me.

I'm split, part of my wants it to be totaled out because it'll never be the same again, but I know how much my dad loves that car... the body shop was saying 2-3 weeks if in fact it does get repaired.

hmmm.... I dunno. The biggest issue would be the frame. I can't really tell if it's screwed or not from the pics. All I can tell is the front "bumper" part is dented pretty bad which could've warped the frame on that side

Quote, originally posted by My Brother »Well, my dad owns (owned) a 2005 Corvette. Unfortunately, he (most likely) totalled it. He was going down the Veterans Expressway, and hit a patch of water in a dip, and spun out, and hit the guard rail. (Both a Hillsborough County firefighter and the tow truck driver say it happens a lot since they repaved it) Basically took the nose clean off. The bumper and the headlights were about 40 feet behind the car. The skin of the hood was back there too. The battery is sticking about halfway out of the side of the car, and luckily when he hit the guard rail, it knocked the positive cable loose, so the airbag didn't deploy (which probably would have done more bad than good), and also stopped anything from bursting into flame. The latter would have been a big problem, because he forgot about the lever by his left leg that opened the door when there's no power. That's right, he was sitting in the car for a half an hour waiting for me to bring the key and get him out. Anyway, we believe the car is totalled because we got a real good look at the driver's frame rail (what with the missing bumper and all). It's bent to the left by about 10-15 degrees. The other one is probably about as bad. Didn't get a look at that one. here are some more pics...

Dude, i got dibs on the motor, tranny and brakes...!!!!That "looks" bad, but all of that stuff is MENT to explode like that, to absorb the enegery of the crash.... As bad as it looks, the windsheild isn't even cracked... Which is a GOOD thing, it means the engineering worked..!!!! The new Vettes are SOOO much stronger with the hydroformed frame rails and such.... This should make a good arguement for dad to get proper rain tires for it if he decided to get it fixed or get another one... I wouldn't drive without a "rain tread" anymore... there is NO reasion to, there are sooooo many good tires with a rain tread now a days.... Again, glad to hear he's ok...!!

Everything on the front of a vette is meant to blow apart. It may be repairable just cause I don't notice any hood buckling or A-pillar creases. It anything it definitely will need a new engine cradle.

Racing tire will end up being WORSE in the rain, unless, he plans on not driving it in the rain...

Better off with a big wide performance V-tread. Racing tires i.e. track tires for the strip are faiyl smooth.

I'm not sure exactly what tires he was thinking about getting, but I didn't mean track slicks, what ever it was, they were sticky run flats or something or other.
