oil pan torque spec

I'm in the middle of an oil change (2007 Vibe) and the manual does not (at least that I can find) have a spec for how tight to make the oil pan bolt for after an oil change. Does anybody know it? I know, just make it tight...I just don't want to over do it.

Just tighten it down until it strips the threads on the pan, and then back it off about 1/2 turn. Just kidding of course. I would guess that I tighten it to about 5-10 or so, ft-lbs. However, Quaker State says : The oil drain plug allows the oil to drain out of the oil pan. ... (Generally this is 15-18 ft. lbs. of torque for aluminum oil pans and 20-30 ft. lbs. of torque for steel.

So are you planning on actually using a torque wrench? I use the calibrated technique of making the car rock once or twice....

: ) Yes, I use that method often, but too many times I've rounded off a bolt or stripped threads. Torque wrenches are great!
