Does anyone know if it is possible to safely install additional seating in the rear part of the Vibe?

No there is not enough room for additional seats in the cargo area. It you tried it would not be comfortable or safe. Sorry.

The only way i think you could do it is to use something like the extended cab pickups but they would only have a little room to sit their and you would have to build something to hold them to the framethey call them jump seats and they fold flat in to the side until you need to use themOnes out of the 90's rangers might fit, would need to fabricationhere is on in a jeephere is what they look like in the back of a rangerI think it would be a way to do it

I thnk that maybe, if you pulled out the deck in the rear storage area, and pulled out the tray under it and hte spare tire, you might be able to get some more leg room, then you'd have to do a lot of fabricating to make the extra seats safe. What I'd like is for a way to make the rear seats recline, but have pretty much given up on that as costing too much time and money to be worth it.. If I really needed that, or another row of seats, I'd go back to a minivan.

I used to wonder the same thing - specifically, would seats like this (with their own belts) fit behind the rear seat and could they somehow be secured safely with the Vibe rails. Only my youngest would still fit in those type of seats, so it wouldn't help me anymore.

^^ Even if they would physically fit (doubtful), they wouldn't be safe. There's very little crush space available behind the rear seats in the event of a rear-end collision. It also wouldn't be legal since all passengers in a car are required to be in seat locations tested and certified by the vehicle manufacturer. I'd also note that there's a big difference in apparent strength between the rail-mount cargo hold-down hooks and the regular seatbelt mounting points.Rent a bigger vehicle for occasions where you need to carry more than 5 people.

By the time your done with the fabrication and installation you could have sold the Vibe and put a down payment on a car that holds 7.

i had an old 85 chevy celebrity wagon in the back was a hatch that flipped up and made a little seatback . i bet you could find tons of them in junk yards. if you want real semi comfortable seats forget about it.

Who needs blankets in the back... the plastic cargo floor is soft enough plastic as it is, the blankets might scratch it!
