ok here's the deal. not too long ago, i put new pads on rotors on the front of my maxx. the breaks work fine, but the pads are so freaking loud it's aweful. i cringe when i hit the brakes. they squeal like F.as an attempt to solve the problem, i took the pads off and roughed them up a bit by rubbing them on the sidewalk. it worked for a few days, now they are slowly getting louder and louder again.anyone have any advice what to do to the buggers before i drive my car into the mississippi?

What kind of pads did you get and did you clean your rotors, have them resurfaced or replaced?

Sounds like you got metallic pads, not much you can do with the squealing except change them.

i got new rotors and i'm pretty sure these are the pads:
http://www.partsamerica.com/pr...Set=Ai have bought that brand before and never had an issue. i got them because they have a lifetime warranty and they are cheap.

If that's the case then,do as Joholste suggested.Try some anti-squeal stuff.I use the stuff that goes on the backside of the pad.Works for me.

I put a set of metallic pads on my Malibu back in the day, those were loud too... I ended up going to a set of ceramic pads, those were great. Maybe your rotors just don't like the pads you put on...

You got the Enter Your Zip Code pads, those are horrible, lol. J/KThere is a product called "Disc Brake Quiet". You are not supposed to put it on the pad or anything else, just the disc. But screw it, spray it on the disc, then roll the car and get the part that was behind the padFew shots of that should help smooth it out.

I am just about to change my front pads and in the instructions online it states that when you put the pads on and before you put the caliper back on you do this.1. Go to your localauto parts store and pick up a couple of packets of brake grease.2. put the grease on the back of the pads that make contact with calipers. They state that if you forget to do this your brakes will sqweel some awful no matter what you do to coreect it. Try this and I hope it helps.

You're exactly right Celtic_Curse!The squeeling sound isn't the pad friction against the rotor. Spraying that won't help. What's actually happening is the pad is vibrating (stick and slip), and that causes a metal-to-metal squeal where the caliper pressure is applied to the back of the brake pad. Pull the pads out, apply some lithium grease on the back side pressure plate, and reassemble. This was SOP in the transportation dept in college where I worked and we never had any brake squeal in the fleet. It stands to reason that any spray applied to the disc surface will be wiped clean on the first revolution under a braking load. No real fix there.

Spraying ANYTHING that might ever resemble something oily is a BAD idea. Most of the "brake quiet" products are a "paste" or a "tape" that is used like sound deadening you would find in a car, it put on the PAD to absorb high frequency squeal made by semi-metallic pads.....Here is a little GIS i did on "disc brake quiet"

I say ceramic pads FTW!After switching from metallic to ceramic I wont ever go back. No brake dust and no noise. I do have metallic on the Duc and they squeak sometimes but it's not that big of a deal.
