Holy Crap! I was on that bridge yesterday. Scary, man. I am literally shaking. I hope no one I know was on it. Friends and family have been calling nonstop to see if we are alright. It is one of the busiest areas and it was during rush hour. They are saying 30-50 cars were on it when it collapsed Please help keep all the victims in your prayers. Video of the actual collapse from a security camera:

I used to drive across that bridge to and from work every day. I'm working and living in outer suburbs now, so thankfully rarely drive in that area.First and foremost, prayers go out to everyone involved. I haven't heard of anyone I know, but considering how busy that road is, I certainly wouldn't doubt if I find out someone was. If it was bumper to bumper, I find it hard to believe there were only 50 cars - that was a LONG stretch of road. Last count released is 7 dead and 20 missing. On a lesser but still critical note, this is going to have a major impact on Twin Cities traffic (which is already awful) for years to come. This is one of two major roads coming into Minneapolis from the northern suburbs. The exit immediately south of this bridge is to get to the Metrodome and downtown Minneapolis. The exit immediately to the north of the bridge goes to the University of Minnesota. This will have huge impacts.I heard an interview saying it could be 2 years before it might be replaced - obviously speculation at this point.I'm still in shock. Like so many other things, you never think something like this will happen to or near you. We have tickets to the Twins on 8/18, so will be in the general area for the first time then. WOW.......

SO glad you are all right Brian! I know a few people who live up there, so I hope everyone is ok! This will have some huge ramifications for the Twin Cities for years to come...

I was worried about some of you cause I know a lot of you guys live up that way. Glad to hear all is well. I didn't notice any Vibes/Trixes in the pics I saw on Yahoo. But I am amazed at how good the brakes are on some of those cars holding them at such angles, wow. Anyways, the DT dropped to 4 this morning which is better than 7 and lower than they thought. Good thing it was not a deep river, it seems the main span is still sitting above water.

Glad you're okay, Brian. My neighbors just moved from Minneapolis and drover over that bridge last Sunday. They're a little freaked...I've been watching that video from the security camera* and one thing has been troubling me. It looks like the bridge failed on both of the pylons simultaneously because it fell flat, that is, one side doesn't appear to have failed first and twisted up the road. *Here's where I think that security camera was located (Windows Live Local; change it to bird's eye view):
