Just got home from the hospital...

Post by Merzbow »

So Monday night I was watching Tokyo Drift with my girl friend. Next thing I know, I wake up in the hospital the next morning. I remember a few things from the previous night but not much.I had three seizures (sp?). Had one at my house right around the part where Sean got the red Evo in Tokyo Drift in my girl friend's lap. After that one I got up and went into my bathroom downstairs. Threw up a few times in the sink and remember looking in the mirror and seeing my entire head drenched in sweat, like dripping. Then I collapsed on the tile and my eyes rolled back into my head and my arms and legs shot straight up into the air and I started foaming at the mouth and then went into shock. By then the ambulance got there. I do remember getting into the ambulance at my house.Once I got to the hospital, I don't remember too much, but I do remember seeing the flashing light from the cat-scan they gave me, and I remember the gel on the electrodes from the EKG. I also got an MRI and MRA but the machine wasn't working so I had to wait until the next day. I also have a million holes in my arm from the IV and I had to wear this stupid heart monitor wired to my chest the whole time I was in the hospital.Anyways, definitely showed me who my real friends are though. By the next day, pretty much all my friends stopped by at some point in time throughout the day. I don't even know how a lot of them found out because some of them live far away from me and still showed up.I just wanted to explain my absence since Monday. Now the bad news. I will be on anti-seizure meds for a while. I almost bit my tongue off when I collapsed int he bathroom so that and my arms and legs are still sore from convulsing. The worst part: I CANT DRIVE FOR 6 MONTHS!!!!!!!!! State law! So I can't drive the Vibe or my bike until February. Even by then it's going to be snowing so I'm going to have to wait until April or May to go cruising I am SOOOOOOOOO depressed about it. My moms and dad are going to drive me to work and school and stuff, fortunately I have them to help me through that part at least. I'm thinking about fixing my Taurus while I'm waiting to drive again. I was either going to put a 351 in it or a Taurus SHO motor. Since I'll have a lot of time and I'll be saving a lot of money. Then I'll have both cars and my Ducati ready by Feb.BTW, the doctors couldn't find a definite cause for the seizures either. They seem to think it was from head trauma, like when I got into the accident in the Taurus last February, or I also smashed my face on my window sill in bed a few weeks ago and I hit it so hard it was bleeding everywhere. So, hopefully I don't have anymore cause that was not fun for me or anyone else that was there. I really feel bad for my mom and my girlfriend. My girlfriend was screaming, trying to wake my mom up but it took some time I guess for my mom to hear her.My Vibe's going to have like 60 coats of wax on it by the end of this summer lol. If anyone has any good ideas I could work on with my Vibe let me know. I'm trying to get a bunch of projects lined up for this Summer, Fall, and Winter.

Glad to hear your all right, they didn't suspect it could be epileptic? My fience house sat for a woman whose older son had one right in front of her, she freaked and it was a long night for both of us at the hospital. They put the kid on meds and the parents flew home from Paris the next day.Again glad your alright, your girl should be taken out for a VERY nice dinner for that one.

That's bad news Paul, I bet you are more upset about the no driving than the seizures, we all know how much that means to you. Like SW said, good thing you weren't driving at the time, and I'm sure you understand the reason for the driving ban. Still sucks major though. Hope they figure out the cause and get you well, that's more important to me than you not being able to drive. Hang in there buddy

That's pretty scary... I can't say that I, myself, know what that's like but my wife has been having seizures since she was 14. Fortunately, she's only had maybe one or two like you described. I just hope your medicine is able to control yours or it was a one-time thing. I hope you get better soon

Merz, glad you are okay! Good thing your GF was there to get help quick. You better work on all your cars and bike now and get them ready for next year. I agree SHO engine ftw! get the 3.2 v6 and the manual tranny to match! that sucker is fast. Taurus sho is still my fav. car and ive still never even driven one...only ridden in a 3.0 v6 auto and she wouldnt get on the gas

I'm glad you're OK. This is treatable, if no siezures in 6 months, you'll be back in business. I went through something similar in 1985 after a car accident. I had 2 siezures in a month. I haven't had one since, but did lose my license for 6 months. It will go by fast, just take care of yourself and feel better.

Thanks for the concern everyone. It means alot Whelan, they did consider it to be epileptic due to the fact that I was watching a movie but once they got the MRI results they didn't mention anything else about it so I'm assuming they still think it was from head trauma.Yeah if I was driving the car or the bike when that happened I would probably be dead right now...although I did wipe out on the bike going about 60 and walked away from it so maybe not lol. You can't have my Ducati but I have a 1995 Ninja that needs a new engine too, maybe I'll fix that and you can take it off my hands I'm trying to sell that as well.Yeah she will be a jewel Sublime. I think I'll be able to drive right around the time Auto Rama starts up if I remember correctly. So that will be a good kicker when it comes Good idea to start a detailing business. I did that a couple years ago out of my garage and made some descent money.I understand why I can't drive because if I had another one while driving and I hit someone else I could kill them. I definitely would not want to live with that so I'll just deal with it and hope it goes by fast lol.I was also thinking about getting a 360 eventually. Not now though just in case it was epileptic, I don't need any fast lights and movements setting off another one.AJ that's ok you didn't stop by. Like I said, I didn't call anyone to tell them, they all just found out somehow. Maybe you can pick me up and we can hit up Woodward this weekend or next Thanks again for the concern everyone. A lot of things that were common sense to me before are like, just on the tip of my tongue now and I can't remember them. So hopefully that gets better too eventually. Like directions to some places I can't remember anymore unless I go there... stuff like that.

Wow, good luck Merz--glad you are ok for now, and they figure out what it is so it doesn't happen again! That's very scary! I've fainted several times for no apparent reason and no one knows why, but I can't imagine going through it like you did. Thank god you were at home safe, and someone was there to get help right away. Glad you are somewhat laughing about the circumstances now--fill your time with projects, and think of getting to be chauffeured around and hopefully the time passes quickly!

Yeah. I'm a pretty sarcastic person so it's hard to kick me down in most cases. I was also thinking about doing a rear disk conversion on the Vibe. I have to find a Vibe GT at a junk yard and see if I can rip out the rear brakes I'm getting tired of looking at the drums in the back, especially now with my new rims.

I'm glad your OK,manI'm also glad it was at the movies and not driving your hot Vibe or the bike. This brings back some bad memories for me.This happened to one of my best friends about 7 years ago,he had a few seizures, had a cat scan and they couldn't find anything.About a week later,We went to pick him up for our regular Sunday breakfasts, and we found him passed away in his bed from a Brain aneurysm.I will never forget that day.He was a tough guy too,He did complain a few times of major headaches after the seizures,I don't know if he told his doctor about them. So,if you feel anything out of the ordinary, please get it looked at.

Hi Merz, Glad you are ok. About 8 years ago, I was cooking dinner for my wife and I on our grill, I went inside for something, and the next thing I remember was waking up in the back of an ambulance with a nurse shining a light in my eyes. I had a seizure also, but mine was self induced.... I had been working unbelievable overtime and was taking some ephedra based "speeders", "Mini-Thins", "diet pills", or whatever they're called to keep me going which we find out now can cause seizures, but also I had been a very heavy drinker and decided to quit cold turkey, which can also cause seizures. So between the Mini-Thins and alcohol withdrawl, I had a whopper of a seizure on our kitchen floor. Whacked my elbow on something and it still bothers me today sometimes, but I've been fine since. (haven't had any alcohol or ephedura based speeders since either.....). Anyways, yes I remember not being able to drive for 6 months (or close to it.. ) which was a kind of a pain because I worked 25 miles from home, but between a few friends and a very understanding wife who gave me rides to and from work, it all worked out. Hope they determine what the cause of your seizure was and it's an easy fix. Best wishes and take care.

I'm gonna try and make it to the Ohio meet. My friend said his mom had one once and she got a doctor's note and was able to start driving early so maybe I can do that. I'm going next week to change medications to something more modern.Kevera, that is really tragic I don't know what I would do.Coho, I too was on about my second week of with drawls as well. Not from alcohol but still. I was feeling like crap for about 2-3 weeks as it was. I also didn't even get the urge to smoke at all while I was in there so that showed I'm not addicted to cigarettes which is a good thing. I need to start taking better care of myself that's for sure.

I went off them because i didn't feel they were doing much, but my body went into withdrawals after about 3 weeks and i would just faint and nail my head on whatever was closest, desk, wall, ground, etc. had a slight concussion too. wasn't allowed to drive for about 3 months, but it was ok since i was mostly carpooling with my dad anyways.

Hmmmm...well, I took some of those energy diet pill things a long time ago so I'm not going to take them ever again after hearing your two stories. Now my girl friend is over my house sick because she was at the hospital all week not getting enough sleep or eating right so it's my turn to take care of her.
