Hello everyone,I will be going out of the country for 4 weeks and was wondering if it would be alright to disconnect the battery terminal ? Is it safe to do so and will it effect the car in anyways?Feel free to suggest...

Other than having to reset the clock and preset radio stations, you should be good to go. I'd make sure that you either completely remove the battery and stow it somewhere, or tape back the battery leads so there is no chance of accidentally discharging it...However, for a four week trip, it might not be necessary. I've gone four weeks at a time without disconnecting the battery...

Cars sit on lots longer than 4 wks and do ok. If the battery is dead after 4 wks, you left something on or it was going bad anyway.

I leave my classic car ('66 Impala) in cold winter storage for 4 months at a time. I check that the antifreeze is good to -30, but I just leave the battery connected. Each April, it fires right up after a few secononds of cranking. 4 weeks won't be a problem, methinks.

Thanks guys for the suggestions , i will disconnect the negative terminal and put an insulating tape around it so that it accidently doesnt touch the terminal and discharge , Thanks again one and all .

YOu might as well pull both cables off and cover each cable with a glove

+1 on the battery tender, trickle chargers are the best way to cover yourself.Also put some kind of padding or soft wood under the tires (hell put the thing on jackstands) cause the tires will lose air pressure and sag.BTW this is my 1000 post!

My seconds "big" car (the T&C) often sits for a couple to 4 weeks unused. Never a problem. In fact I bought my 2007 & drive it home on 7-31-07 and didn't drive it again until 8-28.
