Just bought a Vibe....now come the mods....

So - after much research, I've purchased a (new) 2007 Abyss Vibe. Only options are the power group, and A/T. As with many people, I got an excellent deal, between my GM card, the GM rebate, and the GM conquest rebate. Mods coming:1) Matrix armrest (I wonder why the Vibe is so much shorter).2) Leather-wrapped steering wheel.3) Power adapter in the center console (why DID they remove that?)4) New head-unit. Not sure which way I'm going, but I'm leaning toward a JVC CD/ Cassette unit.5) 17" rims, for the Goodyear F1 tires I have (225 50 17)That's about it for now - thanks to everyone for all the posts contained at genvibe -- it's been a terrific resource.Barry

Welcome to GenVibe!Yeah, another Abyss on board! Wootwoot! As for the armrests...keep an eye out for '03/'04 armrests; they're taller and have a smaller compartment on top as well. Easy to replace. I'm assuming you're speaking of the 12VDC adapter in the base of the armrest, right? Also an easy mod, since the power lines should still run there, oddly enough. There are good how-to posts on these in the forums..just do a search.

Another source for the console power outlet is Radio Shack. They sell an outlet for about $8 that's almost a perfect fit in the hole at the bottom of the console (just took a few seconds to trim a plastic prong on the side).Your F1 tires are almost 4% larger than stock diameter so you'll see a little effect on the speed/odometer readings but they should fit.

Thanks - quick question: What does the Radio Shack adapter connect to? It looks easy to remove the center console -- but I'm wondering what I'll connect the adapter to.Thanks.PS - Has anyone changed the 'base' Vibe steering wheel with a leather-wrapped wheel from either a Vibe GT or Matrix?

Welcome Barry..!!Are you talking about a 12v port or the 110v converter? For the steering wheel cover, look here.. http://www.wheelskins.com/index.php I have one and they are great quality... JVC you say, CD/tape, meaning double DIN, which are nice, but without a detachable face, they scream "STEAL ME"

The Radio Shack 12 V power outlet is a good press-fit into the hole that's already in the bottom of the console compartment. The outlet has two wires (for ground and +12V) coming out of it. The ground wire can be attached to a screw that you'll find by the emergency brake lever and the +12V wire attaches to a wire that's already in place under the console - it has a connector at the end and is just sitting there unconnected.
