K&N Filter Cleaning - how often do you need to clean it?

I've had my K&N for about 15,000 miles, and the tech at my last oil change was telling me it needed to be cleaned. It is getting pretty black... but that seems like a short mileage period, expecially for a K&N.Those of you that have them, how often do you clean them? How do you decide when it's time for a cleaning?TIA

Are you driving in a dusty area? Construction close by with blowing dirt etc, etc.? That's the beauty of a K&N, it's cleanable and re-useable.

I would just clean it.I clean mine 2 times a year regardless if it needs it or not.The kits are cheap, easy to do,and a clean filter gives you better gas mileage.

I clean mine every other oil change (10k miles), using the K&N cleaning/oiling kit. Remember to not over-oil it.
