I don't know if a finance offer could make a 2,500 unit swing in sales though. Time will tell.

Sounds about right... at least in my area. I probably haven't seen a Matrix in a month... except for the Matrix I park next to every day at work.I know they are selling them around here because they are never on the lots for long as well, but I never see them on the road... yet.

When shopping for my car a Pontiac dealer in Edmonton told me that first year production numbers for Matrix would be somewhere in the order of 78,000 Matrix and 18,000 Vibe.

here is what I found at Toyota's web site:
http://www.toyota.com/about/news/manufa ... tml"Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, Inc. (TMMC), located in Cambridge, Ontario, also plans to increase production capacity, to 250,000 units annually due to increased demand for the popular new Corolla and Matrix and to accommodate the new Lexus RX 330. This will mark the first time that a Lexus vehicle has been built at a plant outside of Japan. In 2002, TMMC production reached a record 218,018 total vehicles- 95,030 Corollas, 80,582 Matrix vehicles, and 42,406 Camry Solaras. Additionally, TMMC assembled 158,269 4-cylinder engines.NUMMI, which employs approximately 5,000 team members, had a landmark year as it began production of the redesigned Toyota Corolla and the all-new Pontiac Vibe. Additionally, the plant started production of the Toyota Voltz, a right-hand drive version of the Pontiac Vibe, which is exported for sale in Japan through Toyota dealers. The plant built 310,284 Toyota vehicles including 137,626 Corollas, 8,108 Voltzvehicles, and 164,550 Tacoma trucks. NUMMI also manufactured 59,552 Pontiac Vibes (not included in the 1,205,486 production figure for Toyota). "

By me I have only seen about 5 different Vibes in the 9 months I have had mine. I have seen at least 15 different Matrixes (sp) in the same time frame. I thought they were out selling the Vibes. I guess not.

I see about 8 MAtrices for every 1 Vibe on the road. Somehow I would have thought the sales numbers would be the other way around.

quote:I see about 8 MAtrices for every 1 Vibe on the road. Somehow I would have thought the sales numbers would be the other way around.I think it is only recently (read since GM rebates were added) that the Vibe has increased its sales vs. the Matrix. I think I read somewhere that 3 of the last 5 months Vibe has outsold the Matrix. I think it shows that the buyers recognize the heritage of the Vibe and the value of the price. It could also be a validation of the Pontiac exterior design, but it could be the money. The one draw back to Toyota cutting production, could be the aftermarket may cool to mods if they do not think the Pontiac buyer would mod like the Toyota buyer. Thats where a strong site like this and all you who post will help.

I think this is widely due to Toyota dealerships, being totaly unflexible and NON Negotiable with there pricing.....This is a known fact in Canada!!......... unlike GM or Ford....which can play somewhat with the pricing!

Recently I have seen a lot of Vibes running around. Before it was a big deal to see another one on the road, but now I can see 2 or more each day. I'm not seeing as many Matrix though unless you count the dealers.

in 2002, Toyota sold 80,000 Matrix, Pontiac sold 60,000 Vibe. I wonder if Vibe would overtake the matrix due to more rebates (and better looking !!!). Can someone tell me if Vibe or matrix is cheper, when comparing with same equipments (before rebates)? I've seen different answers in many threads.

from what I see, standard Matrix's model, although cheaper, does not come with at least:rear window wiper, floor mats, 115 volts power outlet, fog lampbut base price differs by about $1700. so I guess Matrix is a lot cheaper w/o rebates.

Ad last week - Columbus OH Toyota dealer offer $25 over invoice on various models including the Matrix and Highlander plus 0% financing for 36 months. At least GM gives you a choice between 0% financing (5 years I think) and a generous rebate. The 5 year 0% is a good deal if you must finance, but if the choice is draining the 2% (or less) savings account then take the $2 grand. With the $1,000 loyalty rebate - if I were a dealer I'd first sell a buyer junker GM car for $100, then give then $100 in trade for it. About $75 in paperwork/title costs for a $1,000 rebate.
