I sold my Vibe but am asking this question on behalf of my parents who own a 2003 AWD Vibe. Car has around 80K easy miles. My mother just took it into service and the dealer said the "axle seal and pinion seal on the transmission" were leaking. They want $800 to fix it.Are there any other documented cases of this? My father says the Vibe is the only vehicle in the garage that DOES NOT have some sort of leak, visible on the garage floor. I don't trust dealerships AT ALL and do all my own repair work. Unfortunately, I'm not there to confirm that there is a problem.Advice?

I have not had any leaks, but I'm only at 31,000 miles. I would have a independent tranny or service shop take a look at it for a second opinion. I would want to dealer to show me the leaks to prove it.

Any possibility of getting a pic of the area? You say you are not there, can you get there and see? It's a possibility, but anything is, as you know... that is a really tough call. Let us know how it goes, i would consider what Blue said, go to an independant and see what they say... I don't trust dealer as far as i could throw the building..

There are leaks, and then there are LEAKS. A little bit of seepage is probably not in and of itself a must fix now problem. Probably a good idea to make sure that there is still an adequate amount of oil/fluid in it, keep an eye on it. $800 is a lot of money to fix something that might be easily taken care of by adding a quart of fluid every year.
