2008 Vibe

Just saw an '08 Vibe this morning at the dealer. Just happened to be the same color as mine - Platinum with grey cladding. It's identical to the '05-'07. Not one bit of change. The only way you can tell it's an '08 is by the VIN (or the window sticker) . This is really disappointing. Maybe GM will bring out an all-new mid-year Vibe as an '09. The car really needs some interior and exterior changes/upgrades. It'd make for a great Hybrid. From my own experience, some needed changes are:1. new lighter color, anti-static seat material 2. new instrument panel lighting3. stronger engine4. better gearing in the automatic trans.5. steering-mounted audio controls6. tilt/telescope steering column.7. SOME DECENT TIRES!! EPA ratings for the '08 are 25/31, which is way low for this vehicle, from my experience. With the a/c on in the dead of summer, in heavy traffic, I never got below 26.5 city. And on the open road, a/c blasting, I'll still get nearly 36. Just think how much better I"d do if I had some good tires instead of the Goodyear RSA (Really ****** on Asphalt).

25/31 are the EPA ratings for their new testing procedures.

Six years is way too long for the same body style - remember this car was released in April of 2002. Come on GM - get you act together.I had hoped they would make it about 6" longer - give it a shot a Viagara, or something.

The matrix/vibe will not be "getting the axe", that has been confirmed over in the Vibe Lounge by someone who works at NUMMI.No word yet on the powertrains. I'm waiting to find out, 'cuz if it's really a big honkin' 2.4l, I'm gonna buy the last of the 1.8s. I buy stick shifts whenever I can, and I'll take 35 mpg freeway over 8 seconds 0-60. American cars are built so they scoot even when driven by ladies who are afraid to press the gas pedal to the floor. I'll wind mine out when I need to and get good gas mileage the rest of the time, thank you very much.OTOH, if the new one is just an improvement on the theme -- how about a little less engine noise? -- then i'll just let my GM Card $$ accumulate and buy the new one.Currently driving an '85 G20 conversion van as my only motor vehicle,I remain,-Mathias

So does anyone on this forum actually own one yet?I'm about to purchase one because it was in stock and the price is right. I'm also tired of buying cars that are 5 years old or more and and driving them into the dirt, so I'm excited to buy my very first brand new car

it's typical of gm to keep the same body for awhile..look at the sunfire..from 1995 to 2002 was the same..just different bumpers..over all it was the same..inside and out..so maybe 09 they will make it different

don't forget to include Toyota in your berating of GM for not changing the body style. its Toyota thats building them for GM under Toyota's direction.

I don't think so. The platform is Toyota but GM controls the body style.

We can agree that everything is the same except for the body, right? And the Vibe body was designed by a GM designer. So I think it's safe to say that GM controls that body style.

I bought an '08 Vibe in Salsa red for the wife for our anniversary. She got 32.5 mpg on the very first tank of gas going to work and short trips to town.

no vibe gets 47 mpg in US standards it WOULD get 47 mpg in UK standards, tho.1 US Gallon = 3.78 Liters1 UK Gallon = 4.55 Liters...... so, if you travelled 640 km on 40.0 Liters (approx avg of what i've been getting last few tanks)...That's 6.25 L/100 km.In US standards, it's 37.7 miles per gallon. In UK standards, it's 45.5 miles per gallon See what I mean?

well hey, my car is one of the new gm green cars, and the sticker stated 47 mpg on highway..7L/100kmsoooo..eat it lol

of course the sticker said 47 mpg, seeing as you -bought it in canada- ... so like I said, it uses that wacky UK mpg standard which makes your car seem like it's going to get way better gas mileage than it seems.... then you start talking to americans, and they're like (removed) my car gets WAY less than that!.... hurrah for double standards and we all know it's a toyota anyway

Re: (WaveAction)

lol..it was a test to see exactly how much i could get..i got an average of about 650 when the gas light comes on..but i dont usually run the car til then..usually fill up at 1/4 tank

You get 650km on a tank!?!Just going to work and back (about 15k total 10 on the highway, 5 on city streets), I average about 450 before the light comes on.The best I think I've got is a little over 550 before the light, and that was mostly highway doing no more than 90kph.My gas consumption stinks. But I still love the Vibe.

yea..my vibe is one of the gm green cars..something new for the 07's so im fortionate to get it..im gonna see how many km's i can do in 1 tank on my way to ohio tomorrow ..all highway driven though and some city..my vibe is actually better in the city then the highways as you can see by the sticker price sheet..and i drive about 13.5 km to work in the city
