ok, first read about the $1000 montgomery note here
http://www.crutchwilliams.com/...t.htmme and drunkengirlfriend were helping my mom hook up a computer and move some stuff around her house and i found one of those (it's real) just laying around. i told my mom that was a no no! i didn't know anything about what it was worth or anything, but i figured it would be worth something. she knew she had it, it was passed down.it's not in very good condition, but it's authentic, you can tell because the signiatures are in pen ink, not printed.my question is, where do you take something like that to get it appraised?also, anyone want to pay a hefty chunk of money for it?

yeah, i saw that website earlier. i am checking the serial number ASAP. it's at my moms house. in the past hour or so, i have learned a buttwad about this note! hopefully, it's not one of those listed.how cool would it be if it was #1 or #607 ??it looks just like that one, but much much dingier.

http://www.csaquotes.com , it looks like you have a rare one that may be worth something. I'd contact that site owner via email (info is on his homepage) as a starting point.

i doubt they take confederate money. it has no real face value anymore, would you take an old baseball card to the bank and ask them about it?

that is still pretty darn cool!

Crutch Williams is the man. You've already found his website, so email him. If you know anyone with a good camera with macro capability, I'd start taking pics right away. And don't try to clean it or improve it in anyway. There are pros who can do this without harming the value.

yeah, i'm dying to get over there and get another look at it. now that i have seen real ones on the internet, i will more easily be able to tell if it's a fake. he said it should be mostly green or dirty green.

Another thing you want to start working on is the provenance of this item. Get your mom to write down everything she remembers about how it came into her possession...who gave it to whom...when it was acquired...how much, if any, was paid. See if any other written/printed materials exist.Get this story straight; if it's genuine, you'll be grilled by potential dealers/buyers about this information. The better the story holds up, the better the value.I'm really excited for you and your mom; keep us informed.
