My only Vibe annoyance

My only annoyance with my car is that when I use the remote there is no "Chirp" to tell me if the car locked or not just my lights flashed, I wonder if there is a way to fix that(GM Factory Alarm System) .....Even if my horn would chirp simulataneously with the lights I would be happy, dosent have to be the anti-theft siren.

I do not find this very annoying. For me it is annoying to drive my wife's car and to always have the thing beeping at me when I lock it.

I'm with drb - a car should be seen, not heard. Besides, the locks themselves make enough noise to be heard if you're close.

........Every car I have owned has this feature, and the chip is re-assurance the alarm is activated and the car is locked!

Having the chirp is nice when you are around blind corners and you want to make sure you locked your car. If you can exactly see the lights flash, at least you can still hear the chirp. Go chirp!

First off, what is the original purpose of the car's horn? I thought it was a way to give warning to someone not paying attention to a potential hazard. I get real annoyed when walking through a mall's parking lot and hear all this beeping and chiping. When it happens to the parked car that i'm walking past I think it might be backing up and beeped at me to watch out. I just think it's more noise pollution and confusion. I was glad to learn the Vibe does not do this.

It may be noise pollution to you, but to me its a safety/security feature, If I can get some info, I would welcome the challenge to do the mod!..at night I dont care that much as the lights flash, so thats cool..but in bright day light.....a beep would be ideal!

I have to say that I like the fact that it is silent. I had an alarm system installed in my last car and the chirping seemed like it drew more attention to it than anything. It was like the car was saying, "Hey! Come look what I have to steal out of me if you can!" It was kind of annoying to. I found myself hitting button two then one two use the silent feature more than anything.Everyone likes different things though. This is just my personal opinion on this.

Went camping at Arches NP in a brand new borrowed Nissan Pathfinder (we have great friends in Salt Lake city!) with the chirping alarm. I felt like an idiot when I pressed the lock and the chirp echoed through the entire campground.Horror story: 3 year old was sitting in the Pathfinder while we were breaking camp (EARLY in the morning). She got against the button that activated the alarm...AND....I couldn't find the keys to turn it off! I said a couple of BAD words ( I still remember which ones ) and eventually found the keys in the bottom of the tent. We just threw everything in the back without packing and drove away before anyone else got up. I don't EVER want another chirping alarm!

If you are not sure and know how to operate a remote and don't understand how to disarm your vehichels alarm system, then that pretty much your fault there.........The CHIRP feature is by far a great and very welcomed SAFETY feature

quote:The CHIRP feature is by far a great and very welcomed SAFETY featureHow is the chirp a safety feature? I see it more as a convenience than safety ie don't have to visually confirm locking rather than save your (removed) in a accident. Chirp/No Chirp, doesn't really matter to me. My last car had remote locks but NO confirmation, no lights, no chirp, nada. So you had to strain and listen for the locking mechanism to be sure. So the lights flashing is an upgrade for me.

I miss the chirp. My TA has is and my previous grand am had it. I thought it was a nice feature. For the people who don't like it you could disable it with a holding sequence for a couple seconds on the remote and the chirp was disabled.

yup, that's in your owner's manual, page 2-10:" UNLOCK: press this button once to unlock the driver's door. THe turn signal lights will flash twice and the interior lamps will com on to confirm that the hoor has unlocked. In the UNLOCK button is pressed again within three seconds, all remaining doors will unlock. The interior lamps will stay on for 15 seconds or until the ignition is turned on. If the UNLOCK button is pressed and no door is opened, the doors will lock automatically after 30 seconds."BTW, I wouldn't be opposed to a chirp. I only lock my doors when I go into the city, or leave my car outside my house. At work I don't even bother to lock it -- most folks leave the keys in the ignition.

instead of a chirp how about a nice sexy (female type) voice that says "Hey baby your vibe is locked up nice and tight"don't think it would really happen but since we are all making suggestions....

quote:Someone could easily start going around and go car shopping with ease.Sure they could. But it rarely happens. I've only heard of 1 vehicle getting stolen in that area in alomst 3 years. A drunk, and he stole a 3 ton grain truck. I left the keys in my ignition of my 84 Charger for almost 1 year, hoping that it would get stolen. It didn't, and every morning I would look out the window and be disappointed that it was still there. I don't think anybody could have stolen it anyway. You had to pump it 14 times to start it. No more, you'd flood it. No less, it'd never start.

The doors in my PT automatically lock when you get to about 15 mph. Can the Vibe be set to do that?

I had a Grand Am that honked when it locked. I now have a Vibe and have to admit that I like the change to no sound - outside of the locks actually locking (although the lights do flash).

Hi All,I'm a new member and I just registered last week. I just wanna say thanks to all of you who post a lot of information to this website's forums. This site help me when I was thinking of buying the Vibe and it still does now that I have my Vibe. Well talk about the chirp. I just got my security alarm installed last Saturday. And I've been reading this topic for awhile now, and I was not really sure if I will get the chirp or not before I setup the appointment for the installers. So kinda decided, that whatever if I get the chirp or not is fine for me.But I got the chirp.I don't know how the installer did it. But I have it.I ordered the factory version and they send me to Zippos at Belleville, NJ to have it installed.

Well, if the doors aren't closed, it doesn't even blink...so I guess this is a good part.

quote:I can hear my locks click, plus see the lights flash. I'm fine without the chirp. Me too. In fact, I HATE it when cars 'chirp', to me it seems like people just like to show off that they have remote contolled locks or something. "Look everyone, I can lock my car from 30 feet away!". Then there are the ones who wait until someone is walking by the front of the vehicle, just to see them jump when the horn goes. I always lock mine while close to the car so the lights and the sound of the locks is more than enough confirmation for me. I don't see any need to lock the car from a position where you can't see it (e.g. from around a corner). But hey, that's just me.

To each his own buddy! LOL , A "Chirp" option should have been included and should have been done in a way to have it disabled according to client prefrence if they did not like it!

Unfortunately No that feature can not be enabled I think on the factory alarm system.......... I also had that option on my other car as well where the doors shut automatically, that was a good feature.

I haven't used my stock remote keyless in since 2 days after I bought the Vibe, I installed my remote car starter and I use that for keyless entry now. I don't remember if you press the lock button a second time doesn't the horn honk to confirm locking. Maybe only on the Vibes with factory security? The system I installed is a 2-way starter, when I lock it it send a signal to my remote and lets me know if I did infact lock the doors or not. Same goes for start/stop, lock/unlock, hatch release, car-finder, rear defrost activation. I like it and if I am ever unsure if I locked it or not I can press the query button on the remote and it will let me know. Up to 2000 feet. Some one said earlier whether on not you could hook up the lights to work with the horn. The answer is yes but it could not work the way you want it. If you use a standard Bosch relay, you can have it so whenever your lights flash the horn will honk. Except that when ever you turn on your lights your horn will start going. I have never checked, but if the lock wire from the keyless entry module goes to ground when the lock button is pressed then you could technically use that wire to trigger the relay and sound the horn, without the danger of having the horn sound when you turn on your parklights.

I remembered one more thing. Have any of you tried to lock your doors, with the door open and your key in the ignition? I haven't tried in a while but I think the door will unlock itself. It is the same thing in most Toyotas.

I think it's great how you can't remote lock the doors if a door is open -- gives me peace of mind that all doors are fully closed because if it locked, they're closed.

People have to remember that it has plenty of Toyota parts. The chirp for this vehicle is not there. I could check to see if it can be connected to chirp but it would be a waste of time for everyone. Listen to the clunk of the doors locking. Just because it chirped does not mean the doors are locked. Do not worry about the chirp or not chirp. Trust me!!!!! the whole idea of keyless entry remotes are on thier way out. All you need to do in the future is have the key fob in your pocket and when you get close it unlocks. Once you walk away from the vehicle it locks. Has anyone ever owned a vehicle that chirped and did not lock??? Do not worry people who do not like chirps. That annoying sound is going away and should have never been started.
