In NC/SC a while ago for family matters, found an awesome road bordering a big lake up there with crazy hairpins and lots of elevation changes. The road was way to narrow to drive how I was and 90% of the area houses are vacation homes and were relatively un-occupied but there are a lot of um and that kept me from really having fun on this road. Any one else got a road like this around them? there were two good 90s with ~15' drops, just awesome to slide around. Liberty Hill, SCWho else has driven a road like this?

I used to live in Vermont, there was Route 17 outside of Bolton which was outside of Burlington... Funnest road ever... Well, when i lived in Buffalo, about 45min south was Springville NY, and leaving springville south there was Zoar Valley road, and to begin with it's just a low rolling straight road, till you see the sign with the truck on the hill, you pass the sign and the world drops out from under you.... fun fun fun Best i got, i live in central Mi now, and there is nothing that even comes CLOSE...

looks like fun, but i like my road better. this is hwy 74, about 5 minutes away from my house. if you wanna get a better look at the road from a driver's POV, watch the movie "torque". one of the first scenes in the movie was filmed on that road.

I will have to look ya up next time I am down there (end of July). I will agree, you guys in Florida have no fun roads, alot of straight aways.... but there is always those pesky police every 15 feet down there looking for fast Vibes..... hmmmm

We don't have anything like that in Texas, but here's one of the more memorable drives I've been on:This is a section of General's Highway in Sequoia National Park. Starting at Hospital Rock at the bottom, you wind your way up about 2200 feet over six miles until you hit the ridge where it levels out a bit. Great drive if you're a passenger, as the views are outstanding (that's Moro Rock on the top right). If you're a driver, it gets a little nerve-wracking, especially when you and some 20-foot motor home try to pass each other on a curve.I had to make part of this run three times because, after getting ready to hike up Moro Rock, I realized I left my tripod at Amphitheater Point (the very tight hairpin upper left) and had to go back to get it. Surprise...it was still there!

Now that highway in Sequoia National Park is awesome. Nice and long too. I saw on TV they were paving all of Pikes peak, is it all paved now?

I lived in Montpelier, VT, attending Vermont College of Norwich U. I had some classes on one campus and some on the other. Ther two campuses were 12 miles apart and there were 2 ways to go:1. Highway, but you had to go out of your way to get there2. backroads: windy twitsy, hilly Vermont backroads following a river valley. So, yes, we used the backroads and would race between campuses (gas was cheap then, no need to carpool). Record time was in the area of 12min:30sec. I loved that road. Can't quite remember how many times I almost died....

Well, in Florida we're not likely to compete with mountain roads for winding wonders. But, there are some pretty good roads with a combination of straights and turns if you move inland away from the coast and the metros. For instance Rt 13 that runs along the east bank of the St. Johns River is a good example. It pretty much follows the flow of the river. Check it out Special_ops9 as it's just a few miles west of Ormond.

oh gosh. craziest road i've ever been on was Hawaii Hwy 340 (i believe that's the number) - West Maui Mountain Hwy!! me and my friend took the long windy one-lane-road way from the airport to the resort (2 hours from Kahului to Kapalua). definitely NOT the route the hotel shuttles took to get to and fro, which was what we thought we were taking... as i indicated, it's mostly one-lane, veeeerrrryyy slow going, hairpin turns thru the mountains, sheer dropoffs from the road, blind curves around sheer rock and lots of horn-beeping were going on. but (removed) the scenery was breathtaking!!! i'm glad i was not driving cuz i would have wrecked us staring at the ocean and mtns and valleys and cliffs and waves breaking on the cliffs and rainbows... we finally got in to Kapalua just when the sun began to set, talk about icing on the cake for a scenic drive.
