Cracked Windshield

I started to wash the Vibe this morning and as I was rinsing the windshield I noticed a crack. I thought it might be hair or debris and started to rinse it off, the crack got bigger until it creeped across the windshield. I found a pit about 1 mm in diameter at the top of the windshield on the passenger side. Since it got pitted by a stone or something, I get to spend 247.00 replacing the windshield.

Ouch. I have glass coverage on my car so I have 0 deductible replacement. Just had mine done due to a crack right after I bought it. Always a pleasure to see a fellow EZpasser

No glass coverage other than what's built into Comp and Collision, deductible is 500.00. Effective midnight tonight, I will have full glass coverage, but I got to eat this one and pay it.

Yeah, I don't have Glass coverage (outside of the $500 deduct), and I have had a pit in mine for about a year now. It's not spreading though, so I am lucky (for now). I would get the extra coverage, but I cna't afford what I got now, lol.... in November I turn 25, so maybe once my rates drop I can get it.

The windshield on my 2003 Vibe has been hit so many times by rocks that I think there is something with the design that makes it a rock magnet. Seriously, I've been to the windshield crack repair place three different times and have had a single chip, a double chip, and a triple chip repaired. $35, $35, and $50. I drove a Honda Civic wagon for 12 years before buying my Vibe and never had a rock chip the windshield. Plus, I've lived in the same place all this time! I'm still happy with the Vibe though!

I totally agree. The Vibe is a rock magnet. I got a new widshield a year ago and it has since been repaired once and has 4 large chips and a crack starting. When the crack gets bad I'll replace it. It should have 3 or 4 more chips by then anyways.

The new windshield was installed today. The installer said he has replaced several Vibe windshields. he had a theory that the angle of the glass (aerodynamic design) is the reason these windshields chip and crack so easily when hit. I don't know if it's true or not. I do know that on the way to work this afternoon, another rock hit the windshield, I couldn't find any chips when I inspected but I definitely heard a loud "ping" when it hit. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I am on my parents insurance and my mom claims that we have glass coverage but she says if we say something that'd be making a claim or something....I should take a picture of my huge gouge out of my glass I got from a semi in December....I am not happy about it and it bothers me every day....I don't know how I should go about fixing it.

Well, you should at least call your insurance agent and see if a windshield claim will affect your insurance. My gut tells me "no", but when in doubt, get it in writing.

with window/glass insuarance it does not affect your rates (from my experience with state farm it doesnt) I had my windshield replaced 3 times in one month and nothing changed. Just call your agent up and ask but you should be fine

Yep, THREE days after getting my vibe I got hit and my windshield cracked. I really think the angle of the windshield adds to the force of the object hitting. Northvibe is the glass insurance part of full coverage or do you have to ask for it separately, I also have state farm.

I drove a Honda Civic wagon for 12 years before buying my Vibe and never had a rock chip the windshield. My 2005 Vibe got two bullseye rock chips the first month we drove it. They were both below the dash in the dark part of the glass that you can only see from the outside so we had them repaired because our insurance pays 100% on chip repairs. About a year later one of the repaired chips started cracking with a big line all the way up the windshield. So we had to get it replaced.I agree there must be something about the design of this windshield because I own a '93 Accord that still has the original windshield. It's had a couple of chip repairs but I'm wishing the dang thing would get a good crack so my insurance will help pay for a new windshield because this one is sand pitted.
