License Plate

Anyone else have a heck of a time finding screws for the license plate? I had to goto three different stores to get ones that went in w/o stripping. Argh. I know, I know.. I should have had the dealer put them on but 1) They're 45mins away and 2) They'd want to put a dealership frame on and I won't let them have free advertising.

quote:Well, yeah.We talked about it and made sure that we got the screws from the dealer. Otherwise check inside your glove box, they might be in there. Also, you can always take the License Frame off when you are in the parking lot or when you get home. Otherwise, go to a Toyota dealer and ask for the screws that go with the Matrix.Using the search function, I came across this topic. I'm in need of another screw for my front license plate. Do I have to go to my dealer, because I hate them......

Nothing says you can't go to another dealer, or a Toyota dealer, for those screws...The other option is to go to Lowe's or HD or something and see if they have a match, but I'd doubt it...best bet, save yourself the trouble, go to ANOTHER dealer for them...Personally, I've gotten the best customer service when buying parts at my local Toyota dealer...

Honestly, couldn't tell ya. Not on my parts list. Can't imagine it being more than a buck or so. Perhaps it's a freebie the dealer holds mass quantities of and gives out as needed. (HAHA! I kill me!)Call a dealer and ask for a price quote...call a few, see if they all more or less agree on price.Just outta curiosity, if you don't mind me asking, did you lose one or something?

Are you, by chance, a compensated endorser for TRD?

Mike , you changed your avatar. Are you, by chance, a compensated endorser for TGI Fridays?

Is this for a front or a rear liscence plate? If it is for the front, any screw that is roughly the same size as the one it is replacing should fit because they just screw into the plastic bumper, right? For the rear plate, there are white plastic inserts in the hatch door for the screws to fit into. You have to have screws with the right threads to fit in those plastic inserts or you will strip them out and ruin them. They are usually a fine metric thread that will be nearly impossible to find in a hardware or home improvment store. They are "application-specific" bolts. I think they use such a fine thread so they don't vibrate out and get lost, otherwise, I don't understand why car manufacturers go through so much trouble to use oddly spec'd bolts for holding on a liscence plate.
