my base 05 has been having a rough idle lately all other engine operation is fine, and I just changed the plugs recently. I'm thinking fuel filter, not sure where it is located, ideas anyone?

When mine was idling rough, I cleaned the MAF, PCV, changed plugs, etc... It only got slightly better. I then added a ground wire kit and a voltage stabilizer and now it is smooth as silk and has been since. So, for me it had to do with the battery, alt, etc... not providing enough power for everything. I can have the radio, A/C, brake lights & blinker on and it still stays smooth. One way to tell for sure is to compare your idle with accesories on, including a blinker at a stop light, to having all accessories off. That will tell you if it is your engine or your electronics system that is making your idle rough. It is idle rough when in park as well or only when driving? It's most likely not the fuel filter, which sits on top of the gas tank accessible thru the cargo area. That would only be a last resort. Good Luck and let us know what you do to get rid of it.

Quick question, are the plugs set at the correct gap?

Take off the engine cover, use a screwdriver to remove the electronic adapters. They have screws on them. Use a rachett, extension, and a spark plug socket to remove the plugs.

yeah it idles rough in park and in gear. Seems I have noticed the alternator might not pumping out enough juice sometimes. I didn't think to check it I'll give it a shot

Yeah, and to really determine if its the alternator, start the car and then remove the positive cable from the battery. If the car stops then its the alternator. If it continues to run its something else.
