i went to drain and fill my power steering fluid. im supposed to fill with dexron II or III ATF right? well i drained it and filled it up turned on the car and it was making noise when i turn the wheel, forgot i had to fill up a little more. filled it up more and it got a little better, but its still making that creeking noise when i turn the wheel. whats wrong?i used mobil 1 synthetic ATF, did i use the wrong fluid? or is there just a break in period?

Well going by the owners manual, you used the right fluid. It sounds like you have air in the system. All you have to do is take the cap off the reservoir and turn the wheel back and forth(with the car running) to purge the air out of the system.Do it till there is no bubbles in the fluid.

They recommend that fluid for the power steering.dexron II or III ATF .Guess most of us haven't had to replace any yet.lol

When they had to replace my P/S pump, the guy at the dealer tells me that it'd probably make some weird noises for a while but not to worry about it. Sure did, man it would have some crazy noises when turning the wheel. But it went away after a couple days, guess the air in the system worked its way out. They didn't put enough fluid in it (go figure) so once everything got settled in, I added some Dexron III ATF. Dumping ATF down into the P/S reservior was a bit odd to me, don't they have actual power steering fluid that could be used for this application? But nooo, they had to be difficult. lol!
