After 4 years and 2 months of Vibe ownership, today was the first time $40 of gas did not fill my tank! $3.35 per gallon = 11.94 gallons.

ouch. I was looking at my Vibe gas data, and back in jan 03 I was paying $1.34/gallon.I remember at the time explicitly thinking that was a lot, now it seems like it would be almost free. The scary thing is wondering when how long it will take until we look back nostalgicly, thinking that paying $3/gallon was the good old days when gas was cheap.

Have to agree with Joat on this one, and we all know that day will come. I suppose I should feel lucky since I can still get gas at $2.99 a gallon. On the other hand, I'm still not looking forward to filling my tank tomorrow.

I remember when i was mowing lawns and a gallon of gas cost .98 and could get me 5 lawns done.

My Max calls for premium, but I've started using 87 more often the last couple months. I was hoping to trade the Max for a Murano in the next month or so, but with gas projections, I have to really start to think about that decision (I drive 50 miles/day)...

I haven't put gas since being out of commission from the windshield, several weeks ago, but probably will fill up tomorrow...I'm afraid to see how much it'll be. My GUESS is $3.50/gallon. I will update when I find out though...it'll help you guys & gals feel a little bit better anyway...

Makes me appreciate the vibes little engine more than a most peoples mileage. But these prices should spark more and more EV, hybrid and other types to become more popular and reduce their cost....hopefully fast.

Ouch. The rising gas prices were definitely a factor in my decision to learn to ride a motorcycle last summer. I spend probably 90% of my time on the road alone, and my bike gets between 45 and 55mpg on 87 octane (my vibe GT only drinks premium).Even with my new bike and a monthly payment, I'm nearly breaking even on gas (I go to Houston 2-3 times a month, 330 mile round trip). Plus, the motorcycle is a *lot* of fun.

I was all sorts of upset on the Florida trip a few weeks ago, when it started costing me about $35 for a fill up. I remember just last year when I bought the Vibe, I NEVER paid over $20, and if it even cam near $20.... it meant my gas light was on, and I was running on fumes

yeah...$3.24 here in chicago. yuckwhat really pisses me off is when i'm watching tv and the newscaster says stuff like 'well, gas prices keep going up, but its not going to affect consumers this summer..."and i'm thinkin 'ok, well wherever you got that crap info, its nice that you let the oil companies know, so the jack-nuts can keep raising the price.

Yeah is stinks for sure! Our Vibe is still getting well over 300 miles a tank and my wife drives it further than I do for her job. I have to fuel up to go to Canada tomorrow and then next week go 2.5 hours away in my state. Thank goodness I get mileage! I am real happy turning my Turbo PT Cruiser in for the Jeep Compass, the Jeep gets way better mileage! The PT called for Premium and I think it only ever had 4 tanks of premium in the 3 years I had it! Even the Vette every now and then gets 89 instead of Premium! Usually if I am going to run it on the highway for a few hours.

and here I was thinking $2.99 for 90 octane was a lot... I'll keep these prices thanks.

When are people going to realize that they can have a 12-14 mpg SUV/pickup for weekends and a 30-40 mpg car for their commute for roughly the same cost as just the SUV (assuming 25,000 annual miles over a 5 year period)?At $3.50 per gallon and 32 mpg, 25000 miles costs $2,734.At $3.50 per gallon and 14 mpg, 25000 miles costs $6,250.So 1 year of 25,000 miles driving saves $3,516 in fuel cost.In 5 years you'd save $17,580 (I got my Vibe for $13,500, $15,000 o.t.d.).I know there are other factors to consider such as extra insurance cost and extra maintenance, but the SUV/truck would also depreciate much less because of the lower mileage and the savings increase as gasoline prices rise.

Those SUV's (removed) me off to no end. Everybody says the car companies are selling LESS of them but I sure as hell have yet to see any evidence of that. Today it was $3.38/gal. at the Shell by home for the 92. $20 got me a little less than 3/4 tank. I was down to less than 1/4 tank, but not quite in the pretty orange light danger zone

I let my little orange light come on the other day. I refused to stop at the nearest gas station from work and pay $2.99 when I could drive down 5 more minutes and get it for 15 cents cheaper per gal.Still at $2.84 it cost me $30.00 to fill up for regular unleaded.

I just want to know what kinda jobs these people have. I am not poor, but not rich. I am seeing people who work at Burger King, and pizza hut, and they are driving SUV's, and V-8 trucks and cars. and they are always driving around. Must be nice to have that kinda money, lol

It's between $3.09 and $3.23 where I am depending if I'm at the office or home. Down closer to NY where I work it is more expensive so I pull the light for almost 20 miles if its on before filling up back at home. Last fillup was $35. I have the AWD so it has a smaller tank. but my gf gives me dirty looks cause she has her Jeep Liberty 3.7L. She literally has a 5 minute commute to work so its not a big deal on her side. When I started driving it was $1.09 sometimes popped down to $.99!

I've seen it as high as $1.10 CDN per liter for regular unleaded, it was at $1.25 in Vancouver earlier this week.$1.10 works out to about $3.70 US per US gallon, $1.25 is about $4.20.Premium is at $1.16 at most places today.Regular is at $1.04.Isn't there a thread for this somewhere else?

Truckdriver, you hit the nail on the head! It is called....wait for it......Conditioning.Remember how we thought 2 bucks a gallon was crazy? It would be up there, then come down a little, and we would all say, whew. Thank God its down to 1.75! Remember when it was 2 bucks! Now, repeat program at 3 bucks per gallon. The news just today was saying that finally gas prices are coming down a bit. Yippee! 2.89 instead of 3 bucks! Now I can afford the blue box of Mac and Cheese and not that damn generic stuff! They even interviewed a few drivers. I wish they had interviewed me cause I would have told them come find me when it gets back down to 2 bucks or less! (Like that will happen) The oil companies now know we will pay the 3 bucks per gallon, and that we will do cartwheels if it gets to 2.75, knowing we have forgotten the not so days of lore when it was 2 or even 1 buck per gallon.I too....decided to invest in a motorcyle so I dont feel so bad about going across town just for the fun of it. I know I'm dating myself, but when I first started driving, gas was $86.9 per gallon (imperial - that's 69.5 / U.S. gal). Last month it was almost $1.30 a litre ($4.91 U.S. or $5.91 imp !!!). And I'm thanking my lucky stars it's down to $1.07 / litre ($4.04 or $4.87). I bought a 125 cc motorcycle last year. It has a 5 litre tank that now costs between 5 and 6 bucks to fill. The most I've ever driven on 1 fill is 166 km (that's over 100 miles in the real world!!!)
