Geneva, Switzerland - Mazda Motor Corporation will showcase a new concept vehicle at the 2003 Geneva International Motor Show: the Mazda MX Sportif. The all-new design concept indicates the direction Mazda will take for its new, global "C-segment" vehicle. The five-door, hatchback MX Sportif has been developed to blur the lines of traditional vehicle segmentation, says Mazda. The design features a long cabin and extremely short overhangs. It also has triangular-shaped rear, a graceful roofline and aggressively flared fenders. The front-wheel drive MX Sportif is powered by a 2.0-litre, inline four-cylinder engine, a member of Mazda's new-generation of engines. The engine features a reversed intake-exhaust layout (with the exhaust system fitted at the rear), a variable intake system (VIS), a tumble swirl control valve (TSCV) and a high-flow port head. The fast revving four-cylinder also meet the PZEV (partial zero emission vehicle) standard in the United States, the European Commission's Euro 4 standard and the ULEV (ultra-low emissions vehicle) standard in Japan. The engine is mated to a close-ratio, short-throw five-speed manual transmission and, for added capability and safety, the MX Sportif features Mazda's Dynamic Stability Control.

That does look nice. Looks like a redesigned Vibe. That's probably why it looks so nice.

Well, when it was the top selling car for GM for a couple months, wouldn't you try to copy that?

Actually, it looks more like a streched out golf GTI.reversed engine layout with the exhaust in the back? Cool. The americans on this board will be happy to hear that Cannondale motorcycles (US Company) pioneered this in their dirt bikes breaking all sorts of traditions but making a lot of sense! Nice looking car but doesn't look like it has the kind of room of a vibe/matrix. more like a new P5.

Mazda builds a good car. You can see a little of the RX8 in the design of the front fenders. It will be interesting to see if it goes into production and how much it will cost...
