I'm glad that genvibers have more class than that. Can I get a big round of applause for us and our moderators.

well lucky for us our front bumpers are plastic instead of metal, so no rust!! but yea that is a bummer.

it's just a scatch..i have a few scratches on my car..but yet it still looks new..i dont think they'd do anything..it's just a road hazard..i've had rocks hit my windsheild and put some divots in it..but theirs nothing u can do..

I use profanity myself occasionally, but how many times does this guy need to use curse words to get his point across? I don't see genvibers doing that. All I'm saying is have a little class. Just my opinion.

The car is less than six months old and other than following the guy till he stopped and KILLING him expressing my feelings in words is my only option. The car is less than six months old That's my point. You did things to risk your life (20-90mph to catch the truck) and at the end of the day, you just got a scratch. Btw, how closely were you following behind the truck when the stuff fell off? What speed? What if you had an accident trying to catch that guy because you were p.o'd at 90mph? I guess that would have really helped you get to work. Cars can be replaced with the insurance that you have. You cannot be replaced. Nor can the folks you put at risk by driving that fast while mad (remember the 5-10 car pile-up you said you almost caused?...your words, not mine....you weren't out there driving alone).It is just a car.

Back in the strip mining days in southern Ohio I learned very early in life. Coal ( bucket ) Trucks drop all kinds of stuff. If you get hit by something it was your own fault for following too close. To this day I can't follow trucks too close but it happens. one week after I had my vibe I got behind a slag truck and he hit a bump dropping rock out the back. I was almost too close but suffered mo nicks. If I did I would have blamed myself.

Keith...I'm SO sorry to hear that this had to happen to you and your Vibe! At least you KNOW where the rocks came from...All I saw were two large rocks spinning and flying (like footballs!!) and there was nothing I could do to avoid being hit.I'm mad too. Because my busted windshield was creaking, I don't get to drive my baby. Also, my insurance agent said to wait because they just put me down to "0" deductible so I won't have to pay for it to be fixed. There should be a law...trucks carrying this kind of crap need to have covers. We have potholes the size of moon craters here. I'm always afraid some big truck carrying bricks or rocks will go through one and it's contents will bounce out.

I am not trying to offend anyone here but getting chips and marks is the chance that you take when on the highway. Like I told my Girlfriend who was upset over her two scratches on her 07 corrola S with less than 1000 miles on it, is that if you don't want scratches and chips then park it in the garage and never drive it. Im sorry if that is harsh, but I own classic cars and I see people get those type of cars never drive them b/c of the road hazards and don't enjoy them. Yes all of my familys classics have chips scratches and marks thats what happens when they are on the road and enjoyed.

yeah, i hate to say it, but slamming on your brakes, almost causing an accident and then gunning your engine and all that isn't a great idea IMO.it's just a car man. many more scratches to come. what do you do to the birds that crap on it?

Sorry to hear about your car, but I think you might have over reacted just a little. I've had my Vibe 8 months, and have had 6 window dings fixed. There are pock marks all over the hood from rocks, and a few good gashes in the front bumper. These things happen. Buy some touch up paint. Buy a Clear bra, maybe. It'll be okay

Dude! Relax! You should see the hood of my car. If you look close, its a showcase of my touch-up paint skillz.

Reminds me of a road-rage accident here in Maryland yesterday, where a pickup truck cut in front of a car and slammed on his brakes, causing the car to run off the road and killing the occupants.http://www.baltimoresun.com/ne...ility

I only speed up to get the plate... and I wasn't the only one slaming on the brakes... Everyone around the inconsiderate driver was doing the same thing every time he/she passed someone in the fast lane. The people next to me in the other lane did the same thing.. I was doing what I though I should do IF there was an accident or god for bid one of the soft ball size rocks that bounced off the back of the trailer hit and killed someone... then the cops would be asking if any one seen what happened...I was travling with the flow of traffic for the time of day 55-60mph and I was 4-5car lenghs away from the truck. AT the time I wasn't aware I only had a scratch.. the rock that hit the car was a little bit smaller than a tennis ball. I wanted to make sure I could give all the information to the police if need be if there was more than just my scratches.Would you drive your car in to in asteroid field at 60mph ? I sure the heck hope not.I am tire of trying to explain my actions... I did what I though to be right at the time.. if you don't like it make sure your not behind me... and fyi .... if you hit me if i slam on my brakes... you would be at fault for not having control of your car...Peace out... First off, sorry to hear about your first scratch. I'm still disappointed about mine. I'd say that realistically, you need to accept that these things happen and try to put it into perspective. The bumpers scratched, but it could've dented the hood...things like that. I'd say it's better to know what happened than to have your first scratch be when you go out to the parking lot at work and there are just several scratches in the rear bumper (like mine) because someone turned to wide...As for the comment by BC, I know it's kind of gone already but I feel the need to comment on profanity. I understand that it may be commonplace and a way of life, but I will bet you still show your Mom and Grandma the utmost respect and watch your language around them. I believe that BC was just commenting how glad he was that GenVibe has been set up to have it's members only address each other respectfully. I think he was right that it is nice that we have respect from one another and even as we get angry, we tend to just calm down and recount what has happened without every other word a curse.Again, to get back on topic, I'm really sorry about your first scratch as I feel the same way about my car, but when put into perspective at least you aren't saying "my first accident" or "my first amputation" or worse...

i looked at the guys pics from mo and man i wish that was the worst scratch on my car lol high school parking lots have lots of wide swinging doors that seem really attracted to my car haha

I understand that the first scratch can be traumatic, and different people obsess differently about the perfect finish on their cars, so for someone who really takes pride in it, any scratch or blemish is a trauma. One of my favirite sayings is that birthdays are like scratches on your car, after so many, another one doesn't seem to matter I can understand seeing a bunch of missiles dislodge from a truck and hitting hte brakes, seems an instinctive reaction, and I bet now you'll leave more room between you and the truck in front of you. If you had caused the pile up, you, or perhaps someone in the middle could have been seriously injured. imho, no car is worth that. If silverawd was still here, he'd have a thing or two to say about road rage. I know a bunch of truck drivers, if you had convinced the driver to pull over, he might have just shot you, so be grateful you got away with just a acratch. some of the roads around here, if you leave a safe enough distance between you and the vehicle in front, then three cars will pull inot the space. When following a dump truck, having a couple of cars bufer would be a good thing. Except unless the car in front spntaneously slams on the brakes and you et caught in the middle of a 5 - 10 car pile up. I imagine you'd be a lot more upset about that. Imagine your reaction if you got sandwiched because someone saw a rock predictably bounce off a dump truck.I think that trying to get an insurance claim for such a minor cosmetic blemish is a bit much though. I do object to the implied criticism of millster,in the original post in this thread, perhaps it was not intended, but the mdoerators here, and especially millster, catch a lot of grief from members who know the rules but ridicule the moderators for enforcing them. I really respect millster, and appreciate all the time and effort the puts into this site, and it angers me to see people giving him a hard time. Maybe meant in fun, but often, other places, people say such things to ridicule the mods, and I have low tolerance for that.Speaking of language, I got a kick out of "Were I grew up ... " an unfortunate typo, but I first read "were" to mean "if" instead of the intended "where" I don't mean that I think you are immature, I just thought it was funny, and it would be really hypocritical of me to criticize anyone for typos. Like in the mo.com thread someone said "tracker trailers" The government stopped using vehicles that large to spy on the general population, they are now called tractor-trailers, (referring to the tractor part that pulls the trailer). Also, the government now uses minivans for that, since electronics have allowed significant miniaturization, and nonthing is more anonymous on the road than a minivan. (just kidding, I hope nobody is that paranoid )so, sucks to have the first scratch, I'd say either get some touch up paint, or the inside hookup to the bodywork expert. There is a lw in MD that requires covers. In this case, it sounds like a cover wouldn't have helped. Dump trucks and other contrauction trailers, as well as anything that might have driven in mud, or gravel, will pick up stuff on the undercarraige, and a bump in the road will knock it loose. All you can really do is notice the nature of the vehicle you are following, and leave enough distance to be able to react.

very well thought out response It's amazing the responses I got from this thread. Some posted their thoughts here some PMed them to me. All in all, looking back now a few weeks later I don't think I would have changed a thing I still would have reacted the same if I seen the rocks flying off the back of the trailer.I in no way was trying to anger or make fun of millster he has always been very fair. I just wasn't sure if the post crossed a line and wanted to get his thoughts on the matter. If it did I would have deleted it on the spot. Being he didn't contact me I can only assume that my original posting was on the level.I did get touch up paint to fill in the gouge. I also have a scheduled appointment to get it to disappear.

I bet I uttered a few asterisks at the time
