Which year VibeGT is the fastest? I've always thought the '03 was the fastest because its lift engaged earlier. But I saw someone post on MO that the '03 is the slowest. lol, so which is it?

For the '05 (or was it '06?) year the way that hp was calculated was changed to show a more acurate number instead of the manufacturers rounding up... nothing really changed but the number, though. I do know that 03-04 are rated around 180hp and the 06 was around 164 or something like that... I'm not really sure why tho...

I thought those numbers changed because of them adjusting lift.

This is what I found from Cars.com2003 GT:HP180-hp @ 7,600 rpmTorque 130 lbs.-ft. @ 6,800 rpm2004 GT:HP173-hp @ 7,600 rpmTorque 130 lbs.-ft. @ 6,800 rpm2005 GT:HP 170-hp @ 7,600 rpmTorque 127 lbs.-ft. @ 4,400 rpm2006 GT:HP 164-hp @ 7,600 rpmTorque 125 lbs.-ft. @ 4,400 rpmone would assume that with that info the '03 is the fastest BUT like I said earlier the official way HP is calculated was changed (I think for 06) so that probly means 03-05 had closer to 170ish HP. Sorry, I can't answer the Lift question... I have no clue about that

It changed from 03 to 04 because of some additional emissions systems. The change from 04 to 05 was just an adjustment in calculation. I do believe there was an adjustment in the lift point and the redline but I doubt that actually lowered the power. The amount of difference is easily accounted for in the calculation change.05 to 06, I'm not sure. That could have been a loss in power. To answer your question though, I'd say they're probably all about the same.

What would have changed peak torque from occuring at 6800 rpm down to 4400 rpm?

03 was the fastest they added they emission canister in 04 and cut horsepower by about 4 hp and i beleive stayed the same but 03 is the fastest! any doubts come take a ride!

I've driven both, I own an '03, but an '04 is faster. Darned smog crap.

how is your 04 faster than the 03 without the smog pump?? sorry, but i think you are wrong. i had an 03 VGT and also test drove the 04 and 05 (out of boredom one afternoon). no way was the 04 faster and certainly not the 05!

yeah the 04 did have the pollution pump and sorry but there is no way its faster than the 03 plus its kinds funny were gm placed the smog pump on the 04 right were you would put your aftermarket cold air ducting plus they lost either 4-8 hp cant rember witch in the 04 from 03 so way glad i bought mine when i did

I'm confused here........what drove the smog pump - engine crank or electric motor?

I have no clue about that yes, they did change the way they calculated the hp ratings, however 04+ all got the added smog pump and other more enviro friendly (power sucking) additions. so i believe the 03 would still have more power, even with the new power ratings.

which is fastest?? it all depends on the driver, so that makes MY 05 VGT the fastest i've never driven any other vibe besides my own, so i couldn't tell ya. but mine is fast enough to get me where i wanna go in the time i wanna get there
