So I get a call today

The local Toyota dealer near my house (first place I saw the Trix up close), calls me up. It's the salesman I originally talked to. He starts blabbin about this and that then goes into a speil (sp?) about how its a great time to come get an 07 Matrix cause they are giving great deals on them. This is how the conversation flowed after that one (I am in bold):"I just bought my 05 last August.""That's OK, you can still get a great trade on it and get into a brand new one."And put myself in a huge flip for the same exact car?""But Brand New!"I have never owned a new car nor would I, they depreciate to quick. That is why I bought mine Certified Pre-Owned.....last August.(I know I should have just hung up at this point but I was enjoying myself)"Well I'm sure we could work something out if you wanna just sto....."Look, I bought this one as an 05 because it had AWD, your nneeewwww 07 does not come with AWD. Therefore unless you are going to sell me a Rav 4 V6 AWD for the same price, AND give me what I owe on this car, waive my down payment and keep me at $343 a month, this discussion really isn't going anywhere. And I know there is no way that would ever happen so I'm going back to work...click..

Ha,Ha.I got a call from my Pontiac dealer last week for the same thing. They told me they would give me full trade value, waive my down payment and keep my current monthly rate. But,I only have a year left and the Vibe is mine, plus I want to start a family soon and don't really want to have a car payment on top of that.I guess sales are down and they want to use whatever they can to get those sales quotas up.

Quote, originally posted by b train »and they wonder how car salesmen get bad namesThe worst part is, that it's the same concept as emails about the UK lottery, and telemarketers..... they wouldn't do it if some people out there didn't go for it, and they make money from it...So even though we hate the salesmen for doing it, they don't care cause someone out there keeps saying yes to them.

I don't blame the folks for trying to make a living, I worked on commission for a bit in undergrad. I just wonder how many customers end up alienated by these tactics vs. coming in a buying a new car.
