what is in a vibe transfer case?

I understand the theory nehind a viscous coupling, but what exactly is in that transfer case besides the output bearing? I don;t think its the same kind of heavily mecahnical case that's in a Jeep for example? It seems that its alot simpler and less to go wrong? The reason I'm asking is that I have a grinding noise that my dealer says is a left wheel bearing and my tranny guy says is the tfer case and front diff. BIG difference in $$$ ....

looks heavily mechanical to meThe viscous coupling is n the front end of the rear differential, but this pdf shows the components of the transfer case, whcih si on the front transaxle
