Antenna Broken...

Okay so in February we had a horrid snow/ice storm. Probably 3-4 inches of snow topped with around 1/2 inch of ice. It shut down college for a while and caused general mayhem amongst drivers who generally had no idea what they were doing (many accidents). So I had to go to work one day during this storm. Luckily, the ice/snow had stopped. There was a large chunk of ice and snow that was rock solid stuck on top of the Vibe. I decided I didn't like it being there. When no other cars were around, I slammed on my brakes. The ice didn't fall so I floored it up to 40, then slammed on my brakes again. Still nothing. Then I went up to 40 again and the whole chunk of ice came right off and cleared my hood. I thought nothing about it until later that night I ejected a disc from my headunit. I heard nothing but static when it switched to the radio. Confused, I inspected the antenna on the roof. It was gone... I drove back to the road to discover my stubby antenna gouged and scraped from repeated run overs. Not JUST the antenna but the threaded metal that you screw the antenna onto was missing too. Just a wire. I should probably fix this sometime. My question is if anyone knows a way to remove the black part that physically is attached to the car's roof. I've always toyed with the idea of using the roof rails as the antennas Probably won't but just wondering.

Try
http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=12907It looks like you might have to take out the headliner to get the black antenna base off.

Mine broke off in a car wash, so I know, it sucks! You do have to remove the headliner to get to it, then unscrew it from the inside, and you can just solder the wire back to the base, I just stripped mine a little and it was enough that it touches the base so my reception in normal. Good luck, it;s not fun!

Like glue or tape?Nope, I had the old base screw still attached to the hanging antenna, so I just finger-closed up the hole in the black base it pulled out through and put it back in through the bottom. Then I just tightened the antenna back onto it and it's held every since. As far as the wire, I just stripped it down a little and kind of spring-twisted it and saw that it was reaching the base piece fine, so I just put it back together and called it a day. Reception has been fine and it has held together fine.
