The transfer case is shot on my '05 AWD Vibe .. making loads of noise and just had it diagnosed. Anyway, it has 56,000 miles on it so this certainly isn't normal. DOes anyone have any suggestions or know of any TSB's or something that can help me out of this mess? Of course its not warrantied.

Ouch! Sorry to hear. I haven't seen or heard of any TSB's on the AWD Tranny. Maybe someone else might know. Good Luck!

I thought we had 100,000 mile on emmitions and 60,000 on drivetrain. the transfer case should be ubnder the drivetrain

no pontiacs cover the drivetrain for 60k under the standard warranty.emissions is 100k. the transfer case is not part of emissions.even if there were a TSB, you would not be covered. TSB's are not recalls - they provide techs with procedures to repair known problems - they DO NOT indicate repairs are to be goodwilled or covered out of the warranty period. If you are out of warranty, a TSB is no good to you.

...so do you have any suggestions as to how to bargain with the service manager? I still think that a transfer case should last more than 2 years / 56,000 miles.

The dealer has the option to goodwill a repair -- cover it under warranty even though it isn't.If you can't get them to do it, try moving higher up in the dealership, and if that doesn't work, start talking to regional, district, and higher-up service managers.

I'm assuming that stamping my feet, yelling/screaming won't get me anywahere ... what kind of approach should I take? I'm not looking for Pontiac topick up the whole tab (of course that would be nice), but at least 1/2.
so maybe its not the transfer case

..so I brought the vibe in to the dealer ...they called me within the hour saying its the fron left wheel bearing ...I asked them to double check it and I had my tranny man call them .. They stethoscoped where my tranny guy said to do so and they still think its the front left wheel bearing ... so $282 is cheaper than $3000, so I think its worth taking the chance on it ... is it possible that my tranny guy is wrong??? He still swears that its the tranny. BUT ..I noticed that all of sounds that the car was making ... groaning, whirring, howling, dissappeared on the rack. WOuldn't you think that if a tranny was making that much noise, it would still be audible on the rack to some extent without a stethoscope????
...continuing saga

dealer just called .... they need another day ...car is now taken apart, but the NEW bearing, out of the box, is seized, so they need to get another one from the warehouse .... I'm starting to feel the insertion of a shaft ......LOL
