does
http://docs.sun.com/source/819....html provide any useful clues? Are you running SunOS 4? I haven't had to deal with that for a long time now. What kind of hardware/model # is it?

Thanks Joat,That helped somewhat,we are running 4.0,but we had the station setup at another location with another monitor. The monitor was fried,so we brought it back to the other location and plugged another monitor into it and we got "out of range",is what I thought was monitor related.I,ve tried other monitors, but same thing. And it does revert back to the default setting on the initial start-up screen.I know these things are picky with monitors and keyboards, but holy smokes. The system has an raptor gfx8p video card and the on-board display is not working. We can get to the okprompt. But how can I go through all the settings for the display.
