Engine swaps

Wondering if anyone here has contemplated swapping in different engines - a 2zz in place of the 1zz, or something more potent like a VR6 or a 4G63T or even wierder stuff like a twin-turbo 427 SBC on nitrous bolted to a Powerglide and a Ford 9-inch for the rear axle with a 4.50 final drive ratio.Just kidding about the 427. How about a 383, instead? It's not like we have a whole bunch of room in the engine bay for much, though.

Ahhh, your both right. The old 427 is a big block (4.25" bore, 3.76" stroke) and the new 427 is a LS7 small block (4.125" bore, 4.00" stroke).

My mistake,I'm old school-that looks like one honkin motor,505 horsepower / 475 lb.-ft. torque,That would make the Vibe haul.

Yep, something like that, the LS7 is 427 of all-aluminum goodness. A BBC woudl weigh appreciably more, so swapping that into a little car like a Vibe would be pretty much crazy, unless you mid/rear-engined the thing...Hey, now that would be pretty cool - a two-seater Vibe with a huge engine stuffed behind the front seats. Turn the hood into a trunk like a VW Bug or a Fiero. Maybe in ten years we'll start seeing stuff like that. Was it Hor Rod that stuffed an LS7 into a Solstice? And only got it to run tens? I can't remember, now.

I keep looking at the 250HP Honda V6 in our Saturn Vue and imagine it in our Vibe. The 3500 lb Vue will do 7 seconds 0 to 60 so the 2700 lb Vibe would be a lot of fun with that engine and it looks like it would fit.

Dude, I saw a 60's something VW bug with a 396 mounted up front to a Powerglide tranny. The front seats were removed and the driver/passenger sat in the back seat. With the exception of fat meats on the rear, it looked stock on the outside. What a beast.

I love wild rides like that. When I was in high school,we built a buddies 82 chevette with a 427 BBC with a powerglide in it.This thing was super fun,but dangerous. We could never get this thing to hook up properly.Driving this thing scared the crap out of me,but man it was fun.I miss those days.

At 130 mph it basically was trying to fly.

Now picture this......a '67 Corvair with a 327 SBC mounted in the back seat but the kicker is a 5HP Briggs & Stratton mounted in front under the hood/trunk lid. This dude would pull into the local drive-in, raise the hood and say "wanna race" as everyone looked at the Briggs sitting there going pop, pop, pop, pop.

This reminded me of an old post years ago when someone asked about engine swaps. Someone responded about the V8 SVT Ford Focus. Here is a link to an article: http://www.sportcompactcarweb....ocus/Now that is an nice engine swap if you have the money! Almost anything is possible if you have the money and time.

I've seen the Tiburon vid, pretty cool stuff. ALmost like the old-school Olds 4-4-too much of yore, only smaller.Someone managed to stuff a Chevy 3.1 (LHO, I think) into the trunk area of an Oldsmobile Cutlass W-body, pretty neat hack 'n' weld project.

Drop the 2zz in after you add the turbo.
