For those of you, who have been following the evolution of HDTV in Québec via Cable-Videotron, here is my question:If someone buy an analogic TV (which is a 16:9 ratio and can at least display 480i mode and have a ColorStream - Component Video input mode), today, how is that TV, will still be able to receive Videotron Cable TV signal, in a near future ?In other word, how an old TV (using NTSC Standard), will still work, receiving a cable TV signal (HDTV or not) in a near future?I understand, that people might suggest getting an HDTV now, but I don't want to spend that much money for it, and I don't watch that much TV either. If that TV bought today, can last 5 years, and I later on buy an HDTV at more reasonable price, and I recycle that old TV, just to play DVD or VHS (in another room), I don't care.Thanks in advance.

I don't know about canada, but in the US the FCC has already approved the gradual phase-out of traditional analog broadcasts.One would hope that the government doesn't honestly expect every home in america to be able to afford to replace all their sets in 5-10 years once analog broadcasting is gone. My assumption would be that there will eventually (sooner than later more likely) be some sort of adapter or converter box that will be obtainable to make HDTV broadcasts compatible with tradtional NTSC sets.

I was thinking the same thing. An interface that would down convert the signal to SD. The cable companies will probably broadcast both for a while. Time Warner currently broadcasts a mix of SD (Analog and Digital) as well as about 12 HD channels in my area. We have 400+ channels, but you see the same channels several times as you surf. ex: NBC-ch 13 SD Analog, ch. 155 SD Digital, ch. 520 HD. I have a feeling that type of broadcast will be around for several years.
