Sooo, we are looking to get some $$$$ back from our taxes, the wife is getting rims for our truck, and right now I am trying to decide if I want to get the Psychovibe skirts (yes, again, mine are in TX in storage and didn't fit right anyways) and get the car completely painted, or get some new rims and tires as my tires are bald and my rims are falling apart. I was also considering getting the rims refinished and powdercoated as an option, but figured new rims might be better/cheaper. Give me your opinions on this please!

get your rims finished and painted then tires... get the skirts mailed to you and properly fitted at a shopseems like you can only do one or the other... rims/tires are spendy and buying new skirts and paintin is spendy too... so its up to your wallet and what you want more* you could get gears of war???

take your time guy. A prize fighter doesn't just jump back in the ring... Also, that way, you get it exactly the way you want it, no compromises

Powdercoating your existing rims will run you approx. $150+/- each. So new rims would most likely be cheaper. Would you go with 19's again? You would get more for your money with 18's especially the tires. New tires are a must get those for sure. I agree with drunken (I never thought I would say that. lol.) to put a portion of it away for savings since you say you are always broke.

Tires first and foremost if they have no tread left.

Yeah don't let anyone coax you into saving it. If I would have listened to everyone on here and in my personal life about saving money I would have a stock vibe with 130hp rollin on 16's, 600 feet off the ground, with MAYBE a neon light stick under the dash plugged into my lighter socket and that's about it....if that were to happen, we'll just say I definately would be soaking up the attention at car shows and definately wouldn't be as happy as I am now. I am still trying ot pay off my tires but I swear to god I am 400% satisfied with spending all this money on the car!I say get new rims and tires, if you get new tires before new rims, depending on what size you get, youll have to get new ones anyways!

I AM broke, but I AM working now, so the bills are straight. This money is coming from tax returns, part of it will be given up for 2 months rent, but we are getting $4700 back total, and my wife is already set on getting rims/tires for her truck, but like lil_red_wagon just found out, there is a place right down the street fro me that sells rims/tires extremely cheap. She is getting 22's for her truck for $1k! I could get some new 18/19's w/tires for easily less than $1k. The rims are falling apart in that the paint/powdercoating on them is chipping off, the lip coating is coming off in places, they are curb-worn in places, and I just want to replace them and get something different. My paint is hosed, the rear bumper is still blue, the front looks like crap, and the whole car looks dumb w/out the skirts. I also still need a grill amongst many other things (i.e. air bags falling apart!). As far as savings goes, I am incapable of saving. Even IF I put money into a savings, it would get spent eventually on b/s.

well, do what you want. just don't make anymore posts about living in the ghetto and how bad it sucks.

$4700 invested in a growth mutual fund earning 12% for 35 years (now you're at retirement age) is worth more than $306,000. Others have given some good advice and some haven't.........give it some serious thought before you make a final decision. Good luck.

Do you really want to wait 35 years to get that money? I'm only 19 and it feels like I should be about 40 years old already! Sure it's alot and you could take it out at any time before then, but what if you die before that? That's how I look at things. Sure you need to plan for the future but you could die tomorow and atleast if you do you'll die happy with the experiences you've had under your belt rather than dying with an investment and not having a good time Take it from an in-experienced/irresponsible 19 year old (I can feel the heat coming soon). Life IS a game regaurdless of what people say. You either win or lose. You win by dying happy. So if investing to get all that in the future makes you happy, invest, but I'm VERY impatient personally. If your car makes you happy, spend the money on your car here and now and love it.Besides...I don't think there was a "saving/investing" option listed in the initial post (removed)

You people in Cali make me sick I took my Vibe out to the autoparts store the other day to get new plugs for my Taurus (wouldnt start and was late for work) and just within that 2 mile journey on a bright sunny 20 degree day, the Vibe now has like 6inchs (exageration) of road salt plastered to the back of it....I would LOOOOVE to detail with you guys...aside from living hundreds of miles away, I have to wait another good month or so before i can even think about bringing my garden hose out without it freezing.

You got tax money coming to you and i had house on sell money coming to me. You can't imagine all the desire of pimping out the vibe once i got that money. BUT i fought it off, atleast until i had the money in my hands. I did spend a little. ($500), But now i am soo much happier not having thrown my money away on the vibe. Give it some time and serious thought. You might be more keen on keeping it once you have in your hands. Plus, there is nothing pimped about having a hot set of rims and paint job if you have to take the bus to work because you got no money to fix it once it breaks. ( we all know your car likes to break down)

To expand on what djb said in conjunction with this, do you realize that at 19, if you got rebates as big as damron for the next five years... you'd be 24, and with that $20k investment, you could never put another dime out of pocket or into social security and still retire with over $1mil in the bank?
