Well as i was coming home from work tonight and on the way to my house there is a large corner that doesnt have traffic on it at all, so i locked yup the E-brake (for a sec) and accelerated through the corner (not fast at all), it was really icy and snowy, and i guess it did the wheel too much and did a 180, and as i was spining the ABS kicked in-disengaged- then engaged but didnt disengage, and locked up, i let off the brake and the pedal was rock hard, so im sliding backwards with my wheels locked up, and then i came to a stop (as the snow cleared), and noticed the engine was not running and the "check engine light" was on, so i tryed to start it up, and it did, and i drove away... My question is, is the engine supose to stop in a spin out? I wasnt reving it up high, if i did i could have made it through the turn, but i wanted to have some fun

are you a standard or auto? If your a manual, it's prob. If your an auto not usually depends on how violently you spun the car.

It almost felt like the ABS System Overpowered the engine and it stalled, it surged really hard...

the drift sounds like fun but bummer to hear about the cel.a few weeks ago i went out tryin to do some doughnuts and i hit a patch of ice slowing down for a light and luckily there were no cars around cause i did a 180 but i didnt have any issues (i didnt try to power thru tho). once i got to a parking lot i tried to ebrake drift but nothin happened at all (guess my new tires are too good) but was able to do some reverse doughnuts

did the CEL stay on after you restarted the engine, or was it just the normal indicator that the ignition was on but the engine wasn't running?I had a minivan that stalled when I slammed on the brakes really hard and hit a deer, but it started up and ran fine afterward. unexpected, weird, but had no lasting effect.

huh ive done that a ton this winter and no cel yet, althou i only spun out on new years. I would have it pulled at autozone or whatever and just keep a eye on it.

With an automatic, if the engine speed is high enough to keep the torque converter locked and you stop too quick it can stall the engine.

It probably was, engine off, key on, normal indicator now i think of it..i still wonder why it stalled, would the computer be giving me a code even if the light isnt on?

if the car stalled, the cel will come on as the key is in the "on" position but the car is off. It would be the same as if you just turned the key on but didn't start the car.As for stalling out on a spin out... Never heard of an automatic doing that...

Think of the PIT manuever the cops use. Your car spins and stalls out, same deal if something like this happens.

I used to be able to drift cones and stuff in the maz but in the vibe it seems even if i yank the ebrake i just slide forward and cranking the wheel does nothing.. anyone got any tips for vibe drifto?
