Yes sir... I've got a jug of just that stuff, same p/n sitting in the closet that does me absolutely no good. But it shall go into Kari's car at some point I guess. It was like $16+ tax for that jug here at the Toyota dealer. I bought two jugs, one to keep and one to do the coolant flush at 30K.

Virtually any of today's modern coolants will be fine in the Vibe, just make sure it says "safe for aluminum", which most do. I flushed the red stuff (DexCool?) out of mine and replaced it with Prestone green, $8/gal.

It is amazing that no one seems to know for sure what coolant is in the Vibe. I replaced my original coolant at 2 years - discussed this issue with the service manager. He said that the Vibe had Dexcool and that is what they use for replacement. The Vibe Owner's Manual in Scheduled Maintenance [both Short Trip/City and Long Trip Highway] says "Cooling System Service" (drain, flush and refill) every 30,000 miles or 24 months whichever occurs first. Under "what to use" it says "Use a mixture of one-half clean, drinkable water and one-half coolant that meets GM Specification 1825-M, which won't damage aluminum parts. However, Dex-cool (GM Spec 6277M) is supposed to be a 5 year/150,000 mile coolant. If you do a Google search on Dex-cool what you mostly find is information on problems and lawsuits with allegations that it causes motor parts to corrode and gum up.A good article can be found at http://www.noln.net/features/feature3.htmlI decided that I will change this Dex-cool again after it has been in 36 months. That probably will avoid any problem with sludging. The dealer usually runs a coolant flush and fill special in fall or winter for about $60 and that is when I have it done.

The dealers all say it's dexcool.I know they replace the original red with dexcool. But it's the same stuff they use in other Toyota's and it's Toyota long life red(2 year).Dexcool is 5 year,so do the math and draw your own conclusions.Plus I did a taste test, and it was definitely Toyota.

I think I got it all covered in this past thread:http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...06195I ended up flushing with Dexcool - almost due for another flush in the next month or two myself. No adverse effects.

Quote, originally posted by kevera »The dealers all say it's dexcool. No they don't - I called a few different dealers checking what they had for 30k service, and I didn't get the same answer from two dealers regarding whether radiator and/or transmission flush was required at 30k. I called 4 different dealers, and got 4 different answers. And yes, these were Pontiac dealers...

"Four dealers - four different answers."And if you contact GM, they will respond "check with your dealer as they are the best source of information."And GM wonders why their customers are so disenchanted!

This really isn't as complicated as most are making it. Up until 2005 Vibes came with Toyota Long Life Red in them (same as all the Toyotas). Starting in 05 Vibes came with Toyota Super Long Life Pink (same as all the Toyotas). Most GM dealers don't stock the stuff so they use DexCool, which is orange in color. Nothing wrong with that, DexCool will work fine. Just from a cost perspective, I started using Prestone All Makes and Models from WalMart. This way I use the same stuff in my 2000 Olds Alero (formerly orange DexCool), my 2001 Lexus RX300 (formerly Toyota Long Life Red) and my 05 Vibe (formerly Toyota Super Ling Life Pink).

Here is another article that tries to explain coolant colors.http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq...g.pdfBut, I don't see mention of Japanese or Korea makers. The article is date 2003 so may be dated even now.And yet another article:http://www.motorage.com/motora...e.pdfBasically they say there are three types of coolant designed for specific uses (inorganic -IAT, organic-OAT, hybrid-HOAT). And say that green coolant is usually IAT type that should not be used in cars from 2001 or newer. It says color is a manufacturer's way to distinguish their product and is a poor way to choose a coolant. The specs are what really count.

Yup sure is. I went to Toyota and had to get a jug cause the Toyo dealer I got it from didn't top me off. No big deal, I charged them back the $38 for it, lol.

And if the stuff in my 2003 Vibe was Toyota long life red then why does the owner's manual tell me to change it at 24,000 miles or two years whichever comes first. Only logical conclusion is that GM is a collective bunch of morons!

I will flush my coolant around 50-60k miles anyways. I feel better, not to mention a tranny flush around then too. Then again at 100.
