Paint Chips on the hood

I travel quite a bit (24,000 business miles last year!) on the interstate and just got back from a 1,350 mile excursion with my new Vibe GT. I just picked it up 3 weeks ago. When I returned I noticed several places on the hood where the paint had chipped, exposing the primer beneath. Anybody had similar problems? How did you fix it? Did the dealer take care of it under warranty? If this keeps up, in a year I'll be driving a rust-bucket. The only place the chipping problem appears is on the hood, nothing on the front bumper, fenders, etc.

The answer is NO, NO and NOOOO. I have the same problem and they told me it was normal wear and tear. Sorry for the bad news.

Speaking of paint chips--somebody dinged my door today. All the way down to the metal. Man was I ticked!!!! You know that person knew they did that!!!! But luckily, I don't have the hood problem (knock on wood.....)

I now have a couple of major chips on the hood. Any further experiences or thoughts re possible repair by dealer? Is the paint stick a fairly good cover or does it look like crap? 10K plus (kilometers) and still enjoying this car immensely otherwise..

There is also a full front end and partial hood bra from GM that you might want to consider as well. You just have to make sure you take it off once and a while and wash it underneath.

This is a pretty cool web site you guys and girls have going on here.anyway on the subject of paint chips I have a Red GT I bought in Oct. and have about 8500 miles. The other day I was washing my car and found chips all over the hood, front plastic and a few on the fenders. when I took my car in to the dealership they gave in ever excuse in the book, everything from gravel roads to gravels truck. I DO NOT drive on dirt roads or tailgate a gravel truck. Needless to say I'm pretty ticked off. Maybe my car or just the color red (Lava) is a soft paint on the Vibes. I'll post any news I get from badgering the dealer

Hi guys! This does not help the chipping issue but just FYI here's what I'm intending on doing. As I intend to keep my Vibe for a looooong time, I've committed to taking the car into a good detail shop once a year to have them do a good wax job and to fill/buff any chips or paint issues I may have. It's expensive but I think I'll maintain a great paint finish for years if I do this. Sure I could wax the car myself but filling chips? Tried that on other cars and you end up with a paint coloured 'turd' where the chip was Well, at least, that's what I was able to do.In any case, I figure spending a couple hundred bux a year for the two things I feel are most important general maintenance wise - synth oil changes (2) and paint detailing (1) - should be a reasonable 'investment'.Anyone with any comments?

Lots of dealerships have a mobile dent/paint person that they know that could fix your problem with the hood. Even if the touch up paint doesn't look great, it is better than having the hood rust. In regards to the chips and dings, I would ask the dealer if they knew a mobile guy to fix and make sure to ask them how much they would charge before you let them do it. it may be better to have a certified body shop do it depending on the price.Shadow
