When my 2003 Vibe with the base engine and 5-speed is warming up in cold weather (below 20 F, for sure) the idle speed goes up and down and up and down - until it warms up for a few minutes. Does anyone else see this, and is it normal, or an indication of a problem. I have about 70K mikes, and changes the plugs about 15K miles ago.THX

You ought to have a lot of data on this - living up North. Have you ever noticed your car doing this ?

My 94 Saturn had the wave effect. It would idle at around 2k at startup and then wobble to 1500 then back to 2k before finally settling in.It's just the computer. I wouldn't worry to much about this as it could be a simple thing like cleaning your MAF, TB. Also throw in a bottle of Complete Fuel System cleaner in your next low tank of fuel. It seems that your car may need a few small things like this. If your car does not spend much time in that cold weather, i.e. months at a time, then the computer may not be used to the cold. On the other hand it has been a staedy 20 degrees each morning for the last two weeks here in CT. Cold, but the car idles smooth till warmed up.

Mine also does this, when you first start it, you can hear it outside of the car. I don't think anything is broken, it still runs fine otherwise and is giving great mileage.
