05 AWD Intake, MAF in the way?

Since the bays are the same, I was almost debating building my own off of the stock piping and just connecting a filter to the pipe where the airbox is. But the MAF sensor is actually part of the box??? It connects into a hard plastic part right where the box connects to the tubing. So how does someone change this around, or do they even sell a filter that incorporates this?I'm assuming that the 03-04 Matrix/Vibe did not have the MAF there hence the ability to put one on. I would go with a warm air shorty, even just like i said with a cone filter at the end of the stock piping, but what to do about the MAF.

I have an 04 and it is in the same place. You are either going to have to get an intake system, warm or cold air.Or do a ram air type setup.Good luck

So does that MAF sensor come out? I'm guessing the plastic tube it is in is removable and able to connect to an aftermarket system? I want a ram air where the cone sits where the airbox is now. Too many bad experiences with my civic and the AEM cai to wanna deal with that headache again. I know it doesn't do much unless you add more mods, but one reason I love it is the sound!

The Maf sensor comes out with the 2 screws. But,disconnect the battery before you take it out,it is very sensitive. The short ram setup is what your looking for.And yes,the Maf will go into a aftermarket intake.Check out K&N,Cosmo,or eBay for a short ram setups.
