I just recently purchased Alpine Type R's for my 03 vibe.Just wondering if anyone on here has them and/or knows the quality they have within the vibe and how hard they are to install ( I hear they are a ***** for just about every car)Im also going to purchase a 4 channel amp. Im not going to have any woofers, just the 2 speakers (and the other two soon to follow) and would like to know a good amp to run them to.feel free to send me an IM. Aim-jps2b

Alpine Type R's are pretty good subs. They'll hit hard. A four channel amp WILL NOT DO JUSTICE.As far as I remember, when I used to sell them, Type R's are Dual-Voice-Coil subs. Meaning they have two 4Ohm, or two 2Ohm terminals. Which one do you have? Also, they probably push around 300-400w RMS. I don't remember the exact spec but you'll need to know that too.Without knowing how many voice coils, what Ohm they're rated at, and what the RMS rating is, it'll be pretty hard to find the appropriate amp. If you get too small an amp (like just about any 4 channel would be), you can destroy the subs by underpowering them.

Thank you all for your help, but I hope youll forgive my lack of car audio knowledge.I got 2 6.5 type rs for the two front doors (and hopefully the back two will follow)here is what I know:250 w peak power50 watts rmscoaxial 2-way thats about it. so im looking to find a cheap (dependable) amp to harness the power.Dont forget i only have two now, but I doubt the stock can run these to their full potential.

Ah, Type-R 6.5". Pretty much anything with a 50w RMS rating will do you. The Alpine amps aren't bad. Kicker and JL amps are pretty nice too.
