Sunroof or Moonroof?

Ok, this might be an off topic thing, but it has to kinda do with the Vibe. In the 04 and earlier years, there was a "moons and tunes" package, and 05+ there was a sun and sound..... both had the same thing, a moon/sun roof and premium sound.....My question: What is the difference (if any) between a sun roof and a moon roof?Me and the wife had been arguing about this. I say it's weather the glass opens or not, and she says it's all about weather it tilts or slides open, and another friend we had said it had to do with if it was glass or not (like in the 80's when they had alot of cars with the opining in the roof, but it was just plastic, not see through). Any insite or opinions on this?

Good question! This is a highly debated topic -- it falls somewhere in the debatability realm of whether toilet paper should unwind towards - or away from - the wall. We've actually covered this before:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... ditionally, a sunroof referred to a moveable metal panel that could be opened to allow air and light in. When closed, it was solid metal, and thus, did not allow any light in.Moonroofs refer to what we now commonly see, which are glass panels that can open and close, and still allow light in regardless of their position. In modern times, however, the two terms have come to be used interchangeably."Sun and Sound," however, I think just refers to the fact that the moonroof allows sunlight to enter the car, and is not so much attempting to label the roof as a sunroof.Of course, only the pontiac marketing department could say for sure...and I'm sure they don't even know why the named it such.

Makes sence. I guess this could be something to argue over if we still lived in the 80/90's. But now they are just one in the same.....Kind of sad that I can't tell her "I told you so".

I want a moon roof, it would go so well with the paint.

Actually I think the Sun & Sound started with the 06 model, although it may have started appearing late in 05. The Sun & Sound comes with the subwoofer (7th speaker) which had to be added for extra cost with the Moon & Tunes package. The option list calls it a power sunroof now, and I think in 07 you can order the sunroof separate from the sound too.Otherwise, I think RagingFish explanation is pretty accurate so far as the use of terms.

Ours is a late '05 with a June '05 build date and it was still called moon-n-tunes then so I think you're right about the sun-n-sound being an '06 designation.

This thread caused me to dig out my window sticker, and have a look - and for my '06 at least, it is Sun 'n Sounds, with the sub-woofer. Now I'll have to re-do my signature logo...
