Fuel gauge light and reserve

I have only filled up my tank twice on my new Vibe. I have put in 10 and 11 gallons thinking I was on the verge of running out of gas. It seems the gauge works opposite my last car, where the gas gage starts to fall immediatly after fill up and leaving a large reserve at Empty. Has anyone figured when the low fuel light comes on? I'm thinking at about 10 gallons used.

at exactly 580km-590km for the past 3 tanks my low fuel light has come on. i have driven with the light on up to 738km. when the light comes on you have between 9-11 liters left of gas. the needle can go aprox a quater tank under the "e" line. i can tell when im really empty and floor it and you get a bit of bogging, at that point i say damb its cold out but im not gonna push!!!!

I filled mine up about 10 miles after the low fuel light came on, and I put in 11.4 (U.S.) gal.

Mine seems to come on with about 2.5 gallons left in the tank.

Thanks for the info, I tried looking in the Vibe manual (online version) to find out that exact info, so thanks for the heads up!

quote:I try not to run mine low, I always fill up when it is around 1/4 of a tank left.I with you....... i try to never let it fall below 1/4 to an 1/8 at most.... i do not trust fuel guages so ikeep track of millage as well........ BTW with fuel injected engines it is not good to run them relay low on fuel.... Electric fuel pumps do not like to pump fumes... they tend to heat up and can fail or shut off temporarly.

I've been told it's bad for the engine to go with less than 1/4 tank, because in winter, condensation can form and freeze, and possibly rupture a fuel line or something, or in general, at that level, the supply isn't always steady, and it can screw with the EFI.
