NEW!!!

Hey, My name is vince, and I am going to pick up my brand new 06 vibe in less than 4 hours. I am pretty pumped. I am new to the board, and ready to start modding my car. Will the short ram cosmo intake for a matrix fit my vibe? I am weary about getting a cold air and sucking in water, so I think I will opt for the short ram... thoughts?

First off welcome to the site. It's very helpful here. The intake will work as long as you get the XR Matrix for the base Vibe or the XRS Matrix for the GT Vibe. Good luck and we all love pictures.

Welcome! Get some pics if you can. Anything performance wise that works on the same year/trim Matrix will fit our Vibes. There are runaround thingies that you can get for CAIs if you're worried about the water.

Welcome to GenVibe, Vince! The Cosmo will need to be for a '05+ XR for it to work. You '05+'s hanve an extra emissions hose going to theintake next to the throttle body. Otherwise, just go tohttp://www.cosmoracing.com Someone on MO said the Cosmohas restocked the Vibe/Matrix intakes so there should beonly a minimal wait time.If you want to opt for a CAI, you can get an AEM bypass for CAIintakes to prevent water from being sucked into the engine.Good Luck and let us know what you decide to get. Oh, and werequire pics of you new car or you'll be banned. (j/k)Ok, so we'll just nag you everytime you post. Again, welcome and enjoy your stay.

thanks for the warm welcome! i am excited! i have long been a member of the toyota family. started with a tercel, then got an mr2, then a supra, and now my vibe (matrix) now... will that aem bypass work with any cai? is there a big difference as far as gains between cai and short ram.. i know you will get cooler air having the filter further from the engine.. but does it make that big a difference.. and are those aem bypass things garaunteed? i really hate to seize my new cars motor. i am at work and cant concentrate.. my first new car!! i post pics when i pick it up tonight!

here's that link for the bypass http://www.eautoworks.com/html...e.htmfrom what I've learned by reading alot of stuff a CAI gives you more on the high end and SR is good for a lil more torque & hpuse the search and you'll find lots of threads about the differences between the two

Welcome, but didn't you say that you were looking at a cosmos "Short" ram intake. The short ram will never feed in water seeing that its a short ram, you'd only have to worry about that if you had a cold air intake that goes into the fender. If you buy a cold air intake-long ram,you shouldn't worry about the bypass valve-it's a super rare occurance to suck up water or unless you drive through rivers or creeks.DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.Good luck.

congrats! welcome to the site!and yes, don't waste your money on the bypass valve. if you get a SR, it won't be necessary anyways, and even on a full cold air intake, unless you drive thru a swimming pool, it's a bit overkill and for the folks that are paranoid.
